Year 5 Teacher - Addington

Marchant Recruitment
Croydon, Greater London

We are seeking a confident, motivated, and dedicated Year 5 Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Addington, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working with upper Key Stage 2 pupils and is passionate about helping children develop the academic skills, independence, and resilience needed for the transition into Year 6.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 5 class, delivering engaging and well-structured lessons across the curriculum. The school has high expectations for teaching and learning while maintaining a strong focus on pupil wellbeing and inclusion. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

You will be joining a committed Key Stage 2 team where shared planning, reflection, and professional dialogue are valued. Senior leadership is approachable and supportive, providing clear guidance and opportunities for professional growth.

The Role

As a Year 5 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons that challenge pupils while supporting a wide range of learning needs. You will use assessment effectively to track progress, identify gaps, and adapt teaching to ensure strong outcomes for all pupils. Encouraging independence, critical thinking, and positive learning behaviours will be central to your classroom practice.

You will work closely with teaching assistants and colleagues to ensure consistent approaches across the phase. Building strong relationships with parents and carers will also be an important part of the role, supporting pupil progress both in school and at home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 5 curriculum

  • Use assessment data to monitor progress and inform planning

  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL

  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS2 colleagues

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers

  • Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5

  • Be confident delivering the national curriculum

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and organisational skills

  • Be reflective, adaptable, and proactive

  • Show a clear commitment to inclusion and safeguarding

  • Work positively as part of a team

Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply and will receive appropriate mentoring and support.

Why Join This School?

  • Supportive leadership and a collaborative KS2 team

  • Well-resourced classrooms and shared planning systems

  • Opportunities for professional development and CPD

  • Engaged and motivated pupils

  • A positive school culture that values staff wellbeing

  • A welcoming and inclusive school community

Location

The school is based in Addington, with good transport links and a strong local community. Staff benefit from a professional, supportive, and welcoming working environment.

How to Apply

To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, clearly outlining your experience and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
