Year 5 Teacher - Addington
We are seeking a confident, motivated, and dedicated Year 5 Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Addington, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working with upper Key Stage 2 pupils and is passionate about helping children develop the academic skills, independence, and resilience needed for the transition into Year 6.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 5 class, delivering engaging and well-structured lessons across the curriculum. The school has high expectations for teaching and learning while maintaining a strong focus on pupil wellbeing and inclusion. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
You will be joining a committed Key Stage 2 team where shared planning, reflection, and professional dialogue are valued. Senior leadership is approachable and supportive, providing clear guidance and opportunities for professional growth.
The Role
As a Year 5 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons that challenge pupils while supporting a wide range of learning needs. You will use assessment effectively to track progress, identify gaps, and adapt teaching to ensure strong outcomes for all pupils. Encouraging independence, critical thinking, and positive learning behaviours will be central to your classroom practice.
You will work closely with teaching assistants and colleagues to ensure consistent approaches across the phase. Building strong relationships with parents and carers will also be an important part of the role, supporting pupil progress both in school and at home.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 5 curriculum
Use assessment data to monitor progress and inform planning
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL
Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS2 colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5
Be confident delivering the national curriculum
Demonstrate strong classroom management and organisational skills
Be reflective, adaptable, and proactive
Show a clear commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
Work positively as part of a team
