Job description
Antitrust/Competition Associate
Location: London
Greenway Search are delighted to be exclusively representing a leading and globally renowned US law firm who are seeking to hire an Antitrust/Competition Associate to join their market-leading practice. The firm is recognised as one of the most successful American firms to have built a fully integrated U.S. And European platform, with local practices across key jurisdictions and five European offices operating seamlessly as one team. This integrated approach is a core part of the firm’s competitive advantage, enabling associates to gain broad international exposure and work on matters spanning multiple jurisdictions.
The Practice:
The London team handles matters across the full spectrum of UK, EU, and other non-U.S. Competition and antitrust law, including:
- Merger control: advising on UK, EU, and multi-jurisdictional merger filings, coordinating with regulators worldwide.
- Cartel investigations: defending clients in complex cartel and anti-competitive conduct investigations before the CMA, European Commission, and other global authorities.
- Abuse of dominance and behavioural matters: advising on vertical and horizontal agreements, distribution strategies, and dominance-related risks.
- State aid/subsidy control and FDI regimes: advising clients on compliance with the evolving UK/EU regulatory frameworks.
- Strategic advisory work: developing compliance programmes, risk assessments, and market strategy guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting on multi-jurisdictional merger filings, including liaising with competition regulators.
- Supporting clients through cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, dawn raids, and enforcement proceedings.
- Advising corporate and private equity clients on competition aspects of cross-border M&A and joint ventures.
- Drafting complex regulatory submissions, responses to authorities, and client memoranda.
- Coordinating with colleagues across European and U.S. Offices on integrated global strategies.
- Engaging in client development initiatives, including training sessions and thought leadership.
Candidate Profile:
- England & Wales qualified solicitor (or equivalent).
- 2–5 years’ PQE in antitrust/competition law, ideally gained at a top-tier international, US, or Magic Circle firm.
- Strong experience in merger control and behavioural competition matters; cartel defence and/or state aid experience desirable.
- Demonstrable understanding of both UK and EU competition regimes, with familiarity of cross-border and multi-authority processes.
- Strong academic background with excellent legal drafting and analytical skills.
- Able to manage complex workloads, coordinate multi-jurisdictional matters, and work effectively under pressure.
What the role offers
- Exposure to some of the most complex and high-profile UK, EU, and international competition cases.
- The opportunity to work as part of an integrated European/U.S. Practice group without jurisdictional boundaries.
- Direct client contact and responsibility at an early stage of your career.
- Competitive US firm compensation and benefits.
- Long-term career development opportunities in a global, market-leading platform.
