English Teacher - Independent Girls’ School in Birmingham

Marchant Recruitment
London

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an English Teacher to join a highly respected independent girls’ school in Birmingham. This is a full-time role beginning in January, teaching across KS3–KS5 (GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language). The successful candidate will be joining a forward-thinking English department with a strong tradition of academic excellence.

  • Full-time English Teacher required from January
  • Prestigious independent girls’ school with a national reputation for excellence
  • Thriving English department with modern facilities and supportive leadership
  • Motivated and ambitious pupils with excellent behaviour

English is one of the school’s flagship subjects. Results are consistently impressive: in 2023, 85% of pupils achieved grades 7–9 at GCSE English, and 88% of A-Level students achieved grades A*–B. Beyond the classroom, the subject is central to the school’s cultural life, with regular debating competitions, theatre trips, and student-led creative writing groups.

Requirements
• Qualified English Teacher with QTS (PGCE, QTLS or equivalent considered)
• Strong subject knowledge across GCSE and A-Level Literature and Language
• Ability to inspire, challenge and support high-achieving pupils
• Organised, enthusiastic and committed to excellent teaching and learning
• Legal right to work in the UK

Salary & Benefits
This role is paid to scale on MPS/UPS, with potential independent school enhancements for the right candidate. Staff also benefit from free on-site parking, free lunches during term time, a contributory pension scheme, access to CPD opportunities, and the use of school sports and fitness facilities.

About the School
This independent girls’ school educates around 900 pupils aged 2–18. Known for combining strong academic achievement with a broad and enriching curriculum, the school has an exceptional record of university progression, with the vast majority of Sixth Form leavers securing places at Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.

The campus is a blend of historic architecture and modern facilities, including a recently refurbished Sixth Form Centre, a dedicated library and learning hub, and specialist English classrooms equipped with digital resources. Pupils are ambitious, articulate and engaged, and the school places a strong emphasis on confidence, leadership, and independent thought.
