Are you a Psychology graduate, SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant looking to build valuable experience supporting children with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

A welcoming primary school in Lambeth is seeking a dedicated, patient and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join its supportive SEN team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychology graduate or experienced support professional looking to develop their knowledge and experience within autism, SEMH, behaviour and child development.

The RoleYou will provide targeted support to pupils who require additional assistance with their learning, communication, behaviour and emotional regulation.

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral team, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils to engage positively with school and develop greater confidence and independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
Supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and SEMH needs.
Helping pupils manage emotions, anxiety and behaviour within the school environment.
Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
Supporting children to engage with learning and classroom routines.
Using appropriate strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
Encouraging communication, social interaction and independence.
Adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
Supporting pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
Following individual support plans and behaviour strategies.
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team.
Contributing to a safe, calm and inclusive classroom environment.The Ideal CandidateThe school would particularly welcome applications from candidates with a background in:

Education
Counselling or Mental Health
Health and Social CarePrevious experience working with children with autism, SEMH or challenging behaviour would be highly advantageous.
This role could also suit a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful experience before pursuing further study or a career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Child Psychology, Mental Health or SEN.

The successful candidate will be calm, patient, empathetic and resilient, with the ability to remain consistent when supporting children who may struggle with emotional regulation or challenging behaviour.
