Senior Alternatives Responsible Investment Specialist

HSBC Global Services Limited
London

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

Join the HSBC Asset Management Alternatives team as a Senior Alternatives Responsible Investment Specialist, where you’ll help shape how ESG is analysed and embedded across our Alternative Solutions investment processes. You’ll play a pivotal role in our Net Zero Accelerator (NZA) programme, act as a central point for Impact Strategies across the Alternatives platform, and partner closely with investment, Operational Due Diligence (ODD) and client teams. This is a high-impact role with meaningful external engagement, including senior-level collaboration with General Partners to drive improvement on material ESG issues and help deliver long-term value responsibly.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Support the integration of ESG considerations across NZA and Alternative Solutions investment strategies, working alongside investment and ODD teams.
  • Help design, evolve and maintain robust sustainable investment frameworks for NZA and fund-of-funds/indirect strategies, reducing greenwashing risk and aligning to Group standards and relevant regulatory regimes.
  • Provide ESG insights, analysis and data to supplement investment decision-making and due diligence across relevant funds and asset classes.
  • Engage with GPs at senior levels to encourage improvements on material ESG issues, supporting value creation and evidencing outcomes where applicable.
  • Produce high-quality sustainability thought pieces, reporting and materials to support internal stakeholders and external client discussions.
  • Partner with investment, client, research and wider HSBC sustainability teams across regions to respond to Group/client ESG requests and contribute to transversal initiatives, working groups and presentations.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Extensive track record in responsible investment / ESG integration within alternatives (e.g., private equity, private credit, real assets, hedge funds, fund-of-funds or indirect strategies).
  • Proven ability to develop and apply sustainable investment frameworks and assess greenwashing risk, with familiarity with relevant responsible investment regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, including confidence engaging credibly with senior General Partners, Portfolio Managers and due diligence teams.
  • Strong analytical capability: comfortable working with ESG data, synthesising complex topics into actionable insights, and applying sound judgement.
  • High-quality written communication skills, with experience producing thought leadership, reports and client-ready materials.
  • Strong risk and control mindset with a track record of operating in line with internal policies and external regulatory expectations, including maintaining appropriate records and audit readiness.

Opening up a world of opportunity.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. At HSBC, we’re dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces - no matter their gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic background or age. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible for everyone to be at their best. We take pride in being a Disability Confident Leader and will offer an interview to people with disabilities, long term conditions or neurodivergent candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
