Rough sleepers Initiative.
You will be working directly with Southwark’s Rough Sleepers.
They will be coming into the supported hostels bed for 12 weeks and during this time you will be working collaboratively along various internal and external agencies to get the best outcome for them.

Purpose of Job:
• To work with our partners to eliminate rough sleeping in Southwark
• To undertake rapid assessments of need for all new rough sleepers on arrival into the supported hostel service
• Provide a coordinated and personalised case management service that enables each rough sleeper to be allocated into suitable next stage accommodation within a maximum 12 week period.
• To build strong effective relationships with clients, staff and partner agencies to support clients at the start of their recovery from street homelessness, ensuring rapid and effective reconnection to all requires services
• To contribute towards the safe running of a supported hostel

JOB CONTEXT:
Number of staff managed :
• No staff management responsibilities, but will be involved in assisting or training new staff at the team manager’s direction or request. It will also involve representing the Council at external meetings.

Key Interfaces :
Internal: Regular contact with the Supported Hostels teams, Rapid Rehousing team Navigators, members of staff from Housing and Modernisation and other council services.
External: St Mungo’s Street Population Outreach Service and Navigators, Health, drug & Alcohol Services, Slam, DWP The Community Safety Unit, Southwark Anti-Social Behaviour Unit, Youth Offending Team, Police, Probation Service, private sector landlords, Hostels and Bed & Breakfasts, service users, their friends, relatives and advisors.

• The job holder is required to take reasonable care for the safety and health of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts; and to co-ordinate with management in the promotion and maintenance of health and safety measures.

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
• Thorough understanding of inner city housing issues and in particular Rough sleeping and Supported housing provision.
• Awareness of issues and challenges facing rough sleeping and solutions to eliminate Rough Sleeping.
• A good knowledge of services, benefits and support available to applicants experiencing housing problems.

Experience:
• Experience of providing an effective engaged face to face service to vulnerable members of the public and the voluntarily sector.
• Experience of implementing an equality and diversity approach to service delivery.
• Experience of working in a team.
• Experience of high quality risk management within a hostel settling and effective record keeping including electronically to a high standard.
• Experience of successfully working to performance targets and tight deadlines in a busy environment.
