MEP GUARDIAN / INSPECTOR – LONDON OFFICE

Location: London
Department: Engineering
Job Type: Full time
Contract Type : Permanent

Passionate about sustainable design and engineering that makes buildings better for people and the planet? This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled MEP Engineer with a broad understanding of MEP systems to make a real impact on the quality and performance of MEP installations.

We are particularly looking for someone with strong site experience—ideally gained with a main contractor—who is eager to expand their knowledge and career while shaping the buildings of tomorrow.

WHY JOIN US?

Here, sustainability is not just a guiding principle but an everyday practice, woven into the fabric of our projects and professional culture. As you expand your expertise, you’ll play a vital role in delivering technical solutions that advance both environmental responsibility and engineering quality, ensuring every project meaningfully contributes to the legacy of the built environment.

Max Fordham is a leading, award-winning MEP engineering practice that is owned by the people who work here, and we are all committed to leading the industry in tackling the challenges posed by the climate and biodiversity crises.

We believe it is a shared responsibility to look after each other, care for our communities, and create a sustainable world. We pride ourselves on providing an open, inclusive and supportive environment for our employees and partners.

Joining us as an MEP Guardian you will have the opportunity to grow professionally while meaningfully contributing to strengthening this stream of work by:

  • Facilitating New Project Delivery.
  • Enhancing Reputation and championing the practice.
  • Nurturing Key Talent.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Having established a strong relationship with several clients, particularly across the residential sector, we are now looking to expand the growing specialist MEP Guardian service that we are currently offering, bolster our capability and reach more clients; the successful candidate will be instrumental in accomplishing these goals.

Based in our London office, the MEP Guardian will join a strong and dynamic team that thrives on collaboration, working on a range of ongoing projects. This is a high-impact, hands-on role, delivering high-quality, compliant MEP solutions. The central aspects of the role will be MEP Guardian and Monitoring, providing direct support to the sector lead and assisting with current and upcoming projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • MEP Installation Monitoring / Guardian Role: Performing design reviews, reviewing contractor's information, conducting on-site installation monitoring, and carrying out witnessing and acceptance testing, to ensure quality and compliance.
  • MEP System Optimisation or Troubleshooting Studies: Conducting optimisation studies for existing MEP installations to enhance efficiency, reduce operating costs, improve reliability, and prove compliance.
  • Setting the Standard: Development of internal tools (trackers, schedules and calculations, testing procedures) for use by others within the Practice. Assisting with the management of the internal knowledge sharing platform. Internal design reviews to ensure standards are maintained across the practice.
  • Supervision: Mentoring, supporting and managing the output of graduate and junior colleagues as the team expands.

ABOUT YOU

Your enthusiasm to be at the forefront of a rapidly expanding service is paramount. You will have acquired a wealth of experience and a broad understanding of a range of MEP systems working in the building services industry, being competent in both detailed design assessment and practical on-site inspection and troubleshooting.

You are likely to be a Senior MEP Engineer, but you may also be an Intermediate Engineer ready to take the next step in your career—or an MEP Coordinator working with a contractor who wants to broaden their experience.

You will be comfortable attending sites, representing the practice and writing follow up reports for clients and contractors to engage with. A motivation to communicate and work collaboratively with others, both internally and externally, is essential, along with:

  • Being a Chartered engineer or working towards chartership status.
  • Having an understanding of the realities of site-based work.
  • Experience inspecting MEP installations on site.
  • Strong written communication skills, evidence of producing reports that are well-presented and clear.
  • Being an effective communicator, comfortable representing the practice in meetings with clients, collaborators and contractors.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Excellent growth opportunities for your personal and career development in a knowledge driven environment
  • Mentored support towards professional accreditation
  • An annual professional institution subscription
  • Interesting and technically challenging projects
  • An inclusive culture and cooperative environment
  • Opportunities for involvement in business-running activities
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Competitive pay and employee bonus
  • Future opportunities for Partnership
  • Six weeks holiday (including Bank holidays)
  • Max Fordham Pension Scheme
  • Other benefits include generous paid parental leave, sick pay, and treatment pay.
