About The Company:

Our client is an early-stage technology business developing an innovative financial intelligence platform. Its product will connect complex operational and financial information through a sophisticated knowledge graph, supporting real-time analysis, financial integrity and the detection of risk and anomalies.

The business is now building the technical foundations of the platform and is looking for an experienced graph and distributed systems specialist who can provide senior-level expertise on a fractional basis.

Fractional Lead Graph Engineer – The Role:

The Fractional Lead Graph Engineer will design, build and optimise the core financial knowledge graph. Working closely with the founder and wider technical team, the successful candidate will shape a scalable graph architecture capable of bringing together unstructured operational data and structured financial transactions.

This is a hands-on role for an engineer who can make sound architectural decisions, solve demanding performance challenges and translate complex financial structures into maintainable graph models and data pipelines.

Fractional Lead Graph Engineer – Key Responsibilities:

- Design and develop a scalable graph database architecture using Neo4j Enterprise

- Create graph schemas that represent financial structures, tax rules, organisational hierarchies and operational relationships

- Build streaming data pipelines that ingest and connect structured transactional data with unstructured business information

- Optimise graph queries, clustering, sharding and sub-graph extraction for high-throughput, low-latency use cases

- Ensure graph data can be supplied efficiently and reliably to machine learning and inference services

- Establish appropriate engineering standards for data integrity, resilience, observability and documentation

- Work collaboratively with backend, AI and infrastructure specialists, transferring knowledge into the wider engineering team

Fractional Lead Graph Engineer – You:

- Significant commercial experience designing and scaling enterprise graph databases, distributed data systems or high-volume event-driven backends

- Strong production experience with Neo4j and graph query languages such as Cypher or Gremlin

- Deep understanding of graph modelling, distributed systems, data architecture and performance optimisation

- Experience with streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka and Flink

- Able to work hands-on while providing senior architectural guidance within an early-stage environment

- Experience within fintech, accounting, payments, banking or another data-intensive regulated sector would be advantageous
