Cyber Security Engineer

We're looking for a Cyber Security Engineer for a public sector organisation based in London (hybrid) on an initial 6-month contract, paying up to £500 per day inside IR35.

This is a hybrid role with typically 1 to 2 days per week in the London office and 3 to 4 days working remotely.

The successful Cyber Security Engineer will join a central ICT Cyber Security team to strengthen operational resilience and support an active Cyber Transformation Programme. This is a hands-on role covering day-to-day security operations, endpoint threat detection and compliance tracking, acting as a bridge between technical security functions and governance frameworks. You'll monitor alert queues, coordinate remediation activity, maintain the Cyber Risk Register and support vulnerability management across the organisation.

You will need proven experience working with the following:

- CrowdStrike Falcon, with practical, operational EDR experience
- Compliance frameworks including NIST CSF, ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials Plus
- Vulnerability scanning, analysis of scan results and prioritisation based on business impact
- Coordinating remediation between security and infrastructure teams
- Maintaining security documentation including risk registers, policies and standards
- Microsoft Entra and Google Workspace from a security and operational perspective
- Clear written communication skills, including translating compliance requirements for technical teams

You'll also need practical exposure to public sector environments, including areas such as:

- Local authority or broader UK public sector ICT or security functions

Experience in penetration testing or web application testing would be a bonus, as would previous contracting experience within a UK local authority.

CompTIA Security+, Network+ and/or CySA+ certifications are highly desirable. CrowdStrike Certified User (CCU) or above, or Microsoft SC-200/SC-900, are also highly desirable. BCS CISMP, ISO 27001 Foundation/Auditor, CISSP or CCNA would be a bonus.
