  • About the Role

  • NPL is seeking an experienced Higher Scientist based in Teddington to plan and deliver a number of technical activities to take our research to the next level. This full-time Research Scientist job comes with a generous salary and benefits package.

    As a Higher Scientist, you'll be expected to acquire new knowledge to find solutions to advance our research. Also, if commercial opportunities arise from your work, you'll need to flag these – as this is how new products and services are born.     Your primary responsibilities will include:

    • Sharing your learnings so that we all benefit and mentoring those with less experience than you
    • Developing partnerships to strengthen our capability
    • Acting as an ambassador for our work externally and being willing to promote what we do
    • Providing technical support for any bids, we may be undertaking
  • About You

  • NPL wishes to appoint a research scientist to join its Engineering Biology multidisciplinary team developing innovative tools and reference standards to address the challenges of reproducibility, traceability, and comparability in Engineering Biology. We are looking for a chemist, biochemist or molecular biologist with prior experience in DNA synthesis and assembly, mRNA or phage displays, or cell free systems. In your work at NPL, you will operate, develop and maintain a state-of-the-art reference biofoundry with a particular emphasis on de novo DNA. You will collect and analyse data and prepare technical reports for publications and commercial contracts, contribute to the delivery of various R&D projects in partnership with industry and support collaborative initiatives with industry and research organisations in the UK and abroad.

    To be successful in this role, you should have a science-related degree with a relevant expertise in the field. You should also be used to working in a team; planning and delivering complex research projects from conception to fruition. Beyond that, we're looking for someone who will thrive in an environment like ours.
