Business Development Director
At Smart, our mission is to transform retirement, savings and financial wellbeing, across all generations, around the world.
THE ROLE
Are you a strategic sales professional ready to drive growth in the DC Workplace Pensions market? Can you translate industry knowledge into commercial success? If you have a passion for building valuable relationships and a proven track record of winning new business, we have a role you’ll want to hear about.
We are a fast-growing, dynamic workplace pension provider on a mission to challenge the status quo. We’re shaking up the industry by removing jargon, enhancing user experience, and delivering a pension solution that employers and their people can understand and value.
As a Business Development Director, you will be a key driver of our commercial success. Your mission will be to expand our market share by identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Building and growing relationships with employee benefit consultants and other key intermediaries
• Identifying and converting new DC pension opportunities with employers
• Representing our brand at industry events, networking meetings, and pitches
• Working closely with our brilliant marketing, product, and customer teams to shape compelling, member-first propositions
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The skills, experience, and aptitudes we are looking for are listed below but please don’t be discouraged from applying if you don’t meet every single one of these criteria – having a ‘can do’ attitude is sometimes more important than being able to tick every box:
• You’ve got solid experience and knowledge in Defined Contribution pensions
• You’re a natural relationship builder who thrives on meeting new people and having insightful conversations
• You’re energetic, self-motivated, and always looking for the next opportunity
• You love being part of a team and helping shape something meaningful
• Ideally, you already have a strong network of employee benefit consultants and understand what makes them tick
• And yes… you get a bit excited about pensions. (So do we.)
This is a chance to be part of a company that’s doing things differently—fast-paced, collaborative, and genuinely purpose-driven. If you want to be more than just another cog in the machine, we’d love to hear from you.
WHO WE ARE
We work in partnerships with governments and financial institutions in the UK and internationally. Our cloud-native digital platform is revolutionising how people around the world think about, and save for, their retirement.
At heart, we’re a financial technology business. What we do is all about innovation, and using the power of digital change to put the customer first. Our Engineers will tell you that working at Smart gives you the opportunity to play your part in developing world-class technological solutions, working with – and learning from – like-minded people.
You’ll also find that, across our business, our colleagues love Smart’s culture, and how what we do means better financial outcomes for savers. That feels worthwhile, and it means that what we do, collectively, goes way beyond the nine to five of a typical working day.
Don’t just take our word for it – you can see what our colleagues say about working at Smart on LinkedIn Life and Glassdoor .
