Clinical Audit Nurse

Main Responsibilities: To be predominantly responsible for the collection of high-quality critical care relevant data, primarily within the Critical Care Minimum Dataset (CCMDS) and Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre Case Mix Programme (ICNARC-CMP) for Critical Care Units across all sites. To be jointly responsible for collection of the ICNARC dataset in CCU A, CCU B, CCU C, CCU D, Liver ICU, Liver HDU/SSDU, Jack Steinberg Critical Care Units, ICU on the PRUH site and Mobile ICUs (Outreach). To be jointly responsible for validation of organ support data in the adult Level 2 & 3 areas in the Trust where the ICNARC dataset is not collected Cardiac Recovery Unit, V&A HDU, Kinnier Wilson HDU, and Womens HDU. To ensure that the ICNARC Dataset is ready and available, in good time as appropriate for the XML file submission to Platform X and to further assist with updates to the ICNARC reporting specification. To ensure that the Critical Care Minimum Data Set is ready for the monthly extract on the database. To ensure that the Infection in Critical Care Quality Improvement Programme (ICCQIP) data is ready for sign off before end of each quarter. To ensure patients that fit the Cardiogenic Shock Module inclusion criteria are promptly reported to ICNARC. To be responsible for training staff in data collection and severity scoring approaches where applicable and make a major contribution towards the further enhancement of clinical audit culture within Critical Care across all sites. To facilitate monthly data quality control meetings with the lead clinician. To facilitate monthly audit and grand round meetings for the unit where clinical audit data forms part of the requirements, which will include the preparation of all relevant reports and presentations. To be responsible for data entry, quality of data validation and ensure clinical software system data is consistent. To collaborate with the audit teams, broader clinical staff and external teams to enhance the clinical system software (i.e. Epic), ensuring its efficiency for end users in clinical documentation, ICNARC/CCMDS data abstraction and reporting. To work on optimising the clinical software to improve its overall system performance and user satisfaction. To facilitate clinical software optimisation, diagnosing frontend software abstraction issues and liaising with appropriate resolution channels. To work together with third party to resolve database performance issues, ensuring data quality and integrity. Reporting and Analysis: To be responsible to produce relevant reports for the Care Group senior management team and to provide Business Systems Manager with required data each month for Care Group performance meeting. To generate reports, and undertake presentations for Nursing and Medical staff monthly, using the audit data, which will involve the establishment and facilitation of regular audit meetings. To facilitate the development of the full reporting capability of the Critical care clinical software systems. To help develop the full robust and bespoke reporting capabilities of the clinical information system software (i.e. Epic) within the local context. Research and Service Development: To support any clinician or nurse lead research activity or service improvement initiatives within the units and wider care group, with the provision of relevant data. To liaise with other areas and agencies regarding audit and collection of data to promote service improvement. In conjunction with the Clinical Director for the Critical Care Units and the Senior Nurse for Critical Care Units, to encourage and enhance the research and audit culture within Critical Care - promoting where possible, the development of an evidence-based approach to clinical care. Governance / Quality Control: To ensure that all requests for clinical outcome specific data are directed through appropriate procedures. To have an awareness of current department needs, health mandates and subsequent effect on data collection. To demonstrate awareness of the importance of data integrity, current Data Protection legislation and Information Governance. To ensure Data protection guidance & confidentiality are adhered to as per Trust guidelines. Administrative Responsibilities To work as part of the wider ICU team by assisting with administrative duties as required supporting the delivery of care. To help train and assess nursing staff during induction & follow up training. Clinical Responsibilities: To provide clinical support for patient care within the Critical Care setting, as needed by the service. To maintain clinical credibility and registration requirements. To participate in Hospital and Care Group initiatives to develop nursing care. To adhere to the NMC Professional Code of Conduct at all times. To update knowledge in light of current research and practice. Personal Professional Development: To adhere to professional register regulations and professional Code of Conduct at all times. To ensure clinical and administrative policies and procedures are adhered to. To maintain clinical competence and credibility. To take personal responsibility for own professional growth and to develop agreed action plan with the risk and governance lead and Head of Nursing.
