Principal Product Manager

Tesco
London

We're a new team operating with startup urgency to create new customer growth. Expect end‑to‑end ownership-rapid experimentation, fast shipping, and leaning in wherever the work takes you, beyond your job title. If you're ambitious, hard‑working, and excited to build 0→1 against tall ambitions, you'll thrive here.

  • Partner with UX to run continuous discovery loops with real customers-design, test, learn, repeat.
  • Rapidly prove or disprove our next inflection points-frame hypotheses, ship scrappy experiments, decide with evidence.
  • Own the backlog end-to-end-prioritise ruthlessly, write crisp stories, and unblock delivery.
  • Build and communicate a living roadmap that aligns squads, leadership, and Tesco's business strategy.
  • Define, instrument, and drive our North Star metrics-create a clear path from experiments to measurable outcomes.
  • Balance now vs next-deliver value today while de‑risking and realising the long‑term vision, always customer‑first.
  • Partner with internal and partner engineers to deliver at venture speed-balance quality vs speed; design for scalability, robustness, and secure, production‑ready releases
  • Craft, evolve, and evangelise a living, customer‑anchored product vision and strategy-tell a compelling story that excites stakeholders, aligns teams, and ladders into Tesco's growth strategy.

  • Bias to action: you move from idea to test to live quickly, and learn in the wild.
  • Scrappy and resourceful: you ship with the tools to hand; progress over perfection.
  • Customer‑obsessed: you validate with customers and let insight drive decisions.
  • Ownership: you take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks.
  • Transparent communicator: you keep the team and stakeholders in the loop, early and often.
  • AI‑forward: you use AI to accelerate research, synthesis, and delivery.
Relevant Experience
  • -Retail/e-commerce
  • -Experience working in a start-up / scale-up
  • End‑to‑end product leadership: apply UX/UI principles to ship intuitive experiences; turn customer research into strategy and outcomes; lead Agile delivery of small, high‑impact increments, grounded in customer empathy and high EQ.
  • Evidence‑led growth at venture speed: run experimentation programs at scale (A/B, MVT) with Optimisation teams; translate insights into OKRs and prioritisation.
  • Data, ML & platform fluency: leverage ML concepts to build impactful features; partner on large‑scale data platforms to improve availability, performance, and security; define and instrument metrics that matter.
  • Technical & operational excellence: understand how large systems interact; monitor uptime, SLOs, and latency; collaborate with engineering to balance speed with quality, scalability, and robustness.
  • Commercial acumen & influence: know the commercial drivers and P&L levers; advise on market research techniques and future trends; influence senior stakeholders to land product, business, and tech OKRs.

Operational Skills
  • Customer discovery & UX: plan and run UX/UI and market research, build deep customer empathy, and translate insight into clear problems, jobs, and value props.
  • Hypothesis‑driven product craft: design experiments, validate at speed, apply lean/agile methodologies, prioritise ruthlessly, and build/communicate a living long‑term roadmap.
  • Data, ML & analytics fluency: instrument North Star metrics, analyse funnels/cohorts, partner on data engineering, and apply practical ML to drive outcomes.
  • Technology delivery in enterprise retail: navigate Tesco/partner stacks, apply best practice enterprise architecture, balance quality vs speed, design for scalability, robustness, and security.
  • Strategy & commercial acumen: create product vision and strategy that ladders into Tesco's growth goals; apply strategic thinking, problem solving, finance and procurement know‑how to unlock delivery.
  • Influence, change & learning: crisp communication and storytelling, stakeholder alignment and influencing, relentless curiosity, and enabling change across teams.
