Finance Assistant

Our Future Health
London

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly organised, proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our growing Finance team. This is a new and important role, supporting the Finance Manager and wider team in delivering high-quality financial and administrative support across the organisation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring finance processes run smoothly and efficiently, maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and strong internal stakeholder relationships in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Despite big improvements in healthcare in our lifetimes, today millions of people in the UK still live in poor health as they get older. Diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affect the lives of many people in our communities. Our goal is to create a world-leading resource for health research, to improve our understanding and spot the patterns of how and why common diseases start, so treatments can begin sooner and be more effective.

Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

What you’ll be doing:

In this role, you will support day-to-day finance operations across accounts payable, financial planning and analysis, payroll support and general finance administration. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Processing staff expenses and liaising with claimants to resolve queries, incorrect data or missing receipts.
  • Managing the expenses inbox and responding to queries in line with the Expenses Policy.
  • Supporting supplier onboarding, including obtaining written and verbal confirmation of bank details.
  • Providing invoice processing cover when required.
  • Running transaction reports and assisting with expenditure queries from budget holders.
  • Supporting Finance Business Partners with management reporting, group accounts and forecast consolidation.
  • Uploading budgets and forecasts into the finance system.
  • Updating the master payroll document with starter information and pay changes, working closely with the People & Culture team to ensure payroll data is accurate and complete.
  • Preparing and organising documentation for audits, as directed by senior finance colleagues.
  • Liaising with the Governance team to coordinate document sign-off and submissions.
  • Setting up new finance system codes and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Providing wider administrative and operational support to the Finance team as required.

Requirements

Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience in a finance or accounts support role and be confident working with data and financial systems. To succeed in this role, you will also have some of the following skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel, with confidence working with financial data and reports.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to respond clearly and professionally to internal and external queries.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience managing workload independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence using finance software (desirable).
  • Experience working in a start-up or growing organisation (desirable).
