Regional Chief Risk Officer (CRO)

London | SMF4 – Chief Risk (UK Branch)

A prestigious global life reinsurer is seeking a Regional Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to lead risk oversight across Europe and North America . Reporting to the Global VP, Risk and sitting on the Europe & North America Market Leadership Committee , you’ll set the regional risk agenda while balancing strategic influence, regulatory responsibility, and hands-on technical oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as Chief Risk Officer for the UK branch (SMF4) with robust second-line oversight across insurance and operational risk.

• Represent the Risk function on regional leadership forums, driving a consistent and high-performing risk culture.

• Provide independent challenge on transactions and initiatives across Protection, Longevity (PRT & Funded Re), Savings & Retirement, and Capital Solutions .

• Lead and refine the risk management framework (risk appetite, policy suite, key metrics and controls).

• Oversee stress & scenario testing , contribute to economic capital model validation, and steer ORSA delivery.

• Engage regularly with the PRA and other regulators, ensuring exemplary governance and compliance.

• Partner with senior leaders to embed risk insight into commercial and strategic decision-making.

Ideal Profile

• Qualified life actuary (FIA or equivalent) with extensive senior-level risk experience in life (re)insurance.

• Proven ability to operate at strategic level while engaging credibly on technical topics (capital, modelling, regulatory).

• Commercial, pragmatic, and highly collaborative, with excellent stakeholder influence and communication skills.
