Overview

Due to demand within the team, the Speech and Language Therapy service has a temporary vacancy for a Band 6 post for a Speech & Language Therapist to work as part of the Adult team. This is for 37.5 hours. The main staff base is a NHS facility in the region.

The successful candidate should be experienced in speech and language therapy for the adult population and will ideally need to be dysphagia-trained. The post covers acute sessions currently but may also cover community sessions in the future.

The Speech and Language Therapy Adult Team is a small but motivated team of enthusiastic clinicians and assistants. It is supported clerically and committed to CPD and training. The department has an excellent record for considering new ways of working.

Duties

Clinical:

  • To provide assessment, diagnoses, treatment and management to patients as appropriate and exercising appropriate clinical judgement. This may include group therapy in conjunction with other therapists and domiciliary visits / visits to other settings as necessary.
  • To produce reports regarding patients’ needs and summarising treatment plans.
  • To adapt practice to meet individual patients’ circumstances, including due regard to cultural and linguistic differences.
  • To ensure that patients and carers are involved in the planning and prioritisation of care plans / treatment programs wherever possible.
  • To liaise with other professionals in Health, Education and Social Care.
  • To liaise with other departmental staff and seek advice / second opinions when necessary from colleagues within and outside the department.
  • To follow departmental policies regarding admission to and discharge from the service.

Administrative:

  • To supply reports and correspondence as required to a variety of other professionals and to the patient themselves.
  • To maintain explicit and accurate case notes, including a detailed case history and all reports /correspondence concerning the patient.
  • To provide statistical information as required including input to the Community Patient Information System.
  • To participate in annual Performance Development Reviews and complete the necessary paperwork.
  • To engage in departmental clinical supervision and complete the necessary paperwork.
  • To offer a regular quota of initial appointments as determined by the Team Leader

Clinical Governance:

  • To ensure the application of evidence-based practice and to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments within the profession.
  • To undertake continuing professional development as required by the Trust, the Team Leader, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and to meet individual needs.
  • To provide information as required by the Trust managers, Team Co-ordinators or others as appropriate.
  • To undertake clinical governance / audit projects as required.
  • To participate in departmental research and audit projects, including the provision of data.
  • To contribute to your clinical team(s) by discussing your own and others’ input around patients’ needs, ensuring well-co-ordinated treatment plans and programmes.
  • To read and act in accordance with RCSLT, HCPC, Trust and departmental standards, policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • To supervise students or Assistants, if required by the Team Leader.
  • To undertake any such appropriate duties or responsibilities as may be directed by Team Leader and the Manager for SLT and Dietetics

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

***IELTS ( 7.5 with 7.0 in each module) – OR OET Exam Grade ‘B’ Overall for Overseas AHP Professionals
***HCPC Registration Required (Health & Care Professionals Council) Essential – We can provide guidance if needed
