Operations Manager | South East London | £40,388-£43,607
A school site doesn't run itself — it needs someone who can take ownership, solve problems and keep everything moving. A thriving secondary school in South East London is looking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager to lead its day-to-day facilities and operational services.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the school environment while working closely with the School Business Manager and wider estates team.
The Role
You'll oversee the school's facilities and site operations, ensuring the environment remains safe, secure, compliant and well maintained.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing day-to-day site operations, maintenance and repairs
Coordinating planned and reactive maintenance programmes
Supervising contractors and monitoring the quality of completed works
Managing cleaning, security and other facilities services
Carrying out site inspections and ensuring issues are addressed promptly
Overseeing fire safety, health & safety and statutory compliance
Managing risk assessments, inspections and required records
Supporting procurement, quotations and contractor appointments
Managing allocated budgets and monitoring expenditure
Responding to emergencies and urgent site issues
Supporting school events and wider operational requirements
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience in operations, facilities, estates or site management, with a strong understanding of health & safety and building maintenance.
You'll be practical, organised and confident managing contractors, budgets and competing priorities. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll work with staff, students, visitors, suppliers and external stakeholders.
A full clean UK driving licence is essential, alongside good IT skills and the ability to undertake practical site duties when required.
