Network Engineer

Salary: The starting salary is £55,662, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.

The salary is broken down as £52,653 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £57,417. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

The Role

As a Network Engineer, you’ll be joining a friendly and collaborative team of around 50 engineers responsible for designing, developing, building and deploying a wide range of technical solutions, primarily supporting surveillance and operational policing activities. Within this wider function, you’ll work as part of the Infrastructure Team, a specialist group of 10 engineers with a passion for networking, communications and infrastructure technologies.

We are seeking a Network Engineer to support the delivery and ongoing development of specialist network technology across London. This is a hands-on technical role combining engineering expertise, operational support and collaboration with multiple teams and suppliers. You will work with a range of network technologies, specialist equipment and secure systems.

Although primarily a workshop-based role, operational demand may require occasional work outside standard business hours. Due to the sensitivity of the systems you will support, you must hold or be willing to obtain SC(e) security clearance.

We are looking for -

• Relevant technical or engineering background, qualification or practical experience (e.g. switching, routing, firewall and VPN experience)
• Experience working with vendors such as Cisco, Peplink and Arista
• Hands on experience Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment. Monitoring network performance and resolving complex connectivity issues.
• Full UK driving license and willingness to obtain C1/D1
• Flexibility to support operational demand, including occasional work outside standard hours

Desirable Criteria -

• CCTV IP knowledge
• Experience managing Linux systems (Ubuntu, Debian)
• Scripting/automation experience (BASH, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
• Virtualisation / containerisation experience (Docker, LXC, KVM, Proxmox)
• CCNA or CCNP qualifications
• Experience with Video Management Systems (Flir Latitude, Milestone, Genetec, NX Witness)
• Knowledge of cellular and Wi-Fi technologies
