SEN Teaching Assistant - Merton
We are seeking a caring, patient, and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Merton, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional learning needs and helping them to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and works collaboratively to support pupils with a wide range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Staff are well-supported by senior leadership, and there is a clear commitment to providing high-quality training and professional development opportunities.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to provide targeted support for pupils with additional needs. This may include one-to-one support, small-group interventions, and in-class assistance to help pupils access the curriculum. You will also play a key role in supporting pupils’ emotional regulation, social development, and independence throughout the school day.
You will contribute to a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment and work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent and effective support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEND
Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets
Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience
Observe, record, and report on pupil progress
Work closely with teachers, SENCo, and other support staff
Support pupils during transitions, break times, and structured activities
Contribute to staff meetings, training, and school initiatives
Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
