Compliance Manager – About the Role

An established insurance organisation is seeking a Compliance Manager to oversee and lead compliance activities across multiple business units. The role is responsible for ensuring the organisation operates in line with all relevant laws, regulatory requirements, and industry standards, while supporting senior leadership in maintaining and strengthening a robust compliance culture.

The position also acts as the organisation’s Data Protection Officer and plays a central role in regulatory reporting, monitoring, governance, and oversight.

Core Responsibilities

Group Compliance Oversight

  • Provide compliance leadership across multiple trading entities within the Group.
  • Serve as Data Protection Officer, ensuring full adherence to data protection requirements and best practices.
  • Advise senior leadership and Boards on compliance matters, including regulatory developments and emerging risks.
  • Deliver first-line compliance guidance to operational teams.
  • Liaise with external compliance consultants where specialist support is required.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver the annual compliance plan.

Scheduled Activities

  • Prepare compliance reports for regular Board meetings.
  • Attend and contribute to governance and regulatory oversight meetings.
  • Manage annual declarations and submissions relating to senior management and conduct frameworks.
  • Allocate and conduct sample testing for file and call audits.
  • Oversee submission of regulatory returns.
  • Conduct annual checks for appointed representatives or intermediaries.
  • Provide oversight of sanctions screening and related controls.

Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Review and approve financial promotions and marketing materials.
  • Support complaint handling in partnership with authorised complaint handlers.
  • Deliver compliance inductions and ongoing training where required.
  • Manage updates relating to senior management and conduct responsibilities due to organisational changes.
  • Notify relevant regulators of material events or changes as required.
  • Manage insurer and intermediary agreements, including terms of business arrangements.
  • Oversee onboarding and due diligence of new insurer and MGA partners.
  • Approve appointed representative or intermediary applications.
  • Lead product governance activity, including fair value assessments.

Duties & Obligations

  • Uphold regulatory principles and ensure compliance with all relevant obligations, including conduct rules, customer fairness, financial crime, data protection, and anti-bribery requirements.
  • Support senior leadership in embedding a strong compliance culture throughout the Group.
  • Adhere to internal Codes of Conduct, policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety.
  • Maintain appropriate professional competency through continuous professional development.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance processes and frameworks.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce the organisation’s values in daily work and behaviours.

Experience Required

  • 3–5 years’ experience in financial services compliance, ideally within the insurance sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK regulatory requirements and relevant European frameworks.
  • Proven experience in compliance monitoring, reporting, and regulatory engagement.
  • Experience with senior management and conduct frameworks, complaint handling, and interaction with regulators.
  • Strong analytical abilities with experience developing and implementing compliance policies and controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver practical compliance support to business teams.
  • Understanding of customer fairness requirements and related conduct principles.
