Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm

Working Pattern: Hybrid (50/50)

Reports to: Senior Underwriter

Travel: Occasional site, borrower and broker visits required

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Underwriter to join our growing Specialist Mortgages team. This is a key riskbased role, acting as a gatekeeper for lending quality across a diverse range of specialist mortgage products.

You'll be responsible for underwriting cases across buytolet (including HMOs), shortterm lets, semicommercial and commercial mortgages, operating within policy and delegated authority. This role suits a commercially minded underwriter who can balance risk and reward while delivering strong broker relationships and excellent customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Credit Assessment

• Underwrite mortgage applications within delegated authority and lending policy
• Analyse credit searches, bank statements, financial accounts, portfolios and valuations
• Form clear lending rationales, escalating cases outside mandate where required
• Maintain a pragmatic and proportionate approach - avoiding unnecessary document requests

Risk & Quality Control

• Ensure appropriate customer due diligence and AML checks are completed
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail to minimise arrears and operational losses
• Apply policies, procedures and compliance standards consistently
• Identify, manage and escalate risks in line with HTB frameworks

Pipeline & Service Delivery

• Manage a pipeline of cases through to formal offer
• Deliver timely, accurate decisions in line with service standards
• Respond efficiently to internal and external enquiries
• Drive a bestinclass customer journey - faster, clearer and more consistent decisions

Stakeholder & Broker Relationships

• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and introducers
• Communicate decisions and requirements clearly and professionally
• Support sales colleagues in maintaining strong broker relationships
• Work collaboratively with completions, servicing, risk and wider Specialist Mortgages teams

What We're Looking For

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven underwriting experience in specialist mortgages
• Strong background in buytolet, HMOs, shortterm lets, and commercial/semicommercial lending
• Good understanding of the mortgage intermediary market and underwriting legal requirements
• Riskaware mindset with balanced, commercial judgement
