Teacher of SEND

We are seeking to appoint an excellent classroom practitioner to teach children with learning difficulties in our growing SEND Unit. This will be a post suitable for a teacher with a passion for supporting SEND students. They will be joining a team of teachers and learning support assistants in our SEND Unit for students with communication and interaction needs within the school. This group will be working at a lower primary level. This post would be suitable for a primary teacher who is looking to work in a secondary school or an experienced teacher of SEND.
The SEND team is enthusiastic, energetic and expert in supporting our students to reach their full potential. We are looking for an equally energetic, well-organised and flexible Teacher of SEND who:
Has experience of teaching students with a range of SEND, especially significant cognition and learning and communication and interaction needs

Is excited to help develop a strong pupil centred curriculum

We take a collaborative view of learning where good practice is shared through a structured INSET programme within school and across the Trust.
Main Purpose
To work as part of a team to develop and deliver a bespoke programme for a small SEND Nurture Group.
A teacher is responsible for ensuring that the students he/she teaches are able to learn effectively and to make progress.
To support the SENDCo and Head of the SEND Unit with the SEND Unit and the delivery of its provision
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
To work as part of a SEND Team to develop the curriculum for the Nurture Group students
The preparation of lessons in accordance with the school’s agreed policies and procedures.
Planning of lessons and teaching resources that enable students to learn and make progress.
Using assessment to inform teaching and learning. Following the school policies on assessment and marking.
The provision of an effective learning environment through proper use of resources and effective management of student behaviour
Being a reflective practitioner, keeping up to date, through reading and INSET, with educational thinking.
Contributing to the development of a subject area through attending meetings and being involved in Faculty review and planning.
Being a positive role model for students, encouraging them to behave in accordance with the school code of conduct.
Developing positive relationships with parents through the formal reporting system, parents’ evenings and when in communication with parents.
Promoting positive attitudes in students when undertaking the role of form tutor, using the tutor period effectively.
Ensuring that school equipment is used safely and take measures to ensure the security of equipment after use.
To take an active role in School Appraisal system to review own progress and set targets for future development.
To undertake the responsibilities of a form tutor.
To deliver outstanding lessons
To monitor and track progress
To help organise effective interventions
Other Professional Responsibilities
To take appropriate action to identify and minimise any risks to health, safety and security in the immediate working environment.
To work in accordance with the values of the school particularly with regard to promoting positive attitudes towards tolerance and respect for other people.
To work in accordance with school policies and procedures as identified in the staff handbook.
