We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic team player to join our mature, friendly, dynamic, and progressive cardiology services covering the Princess Royal University Hospital and Bromley community.
Key knowledge and skills for this post include cardiology experience (CCU/Cardiothoracic), current ILS/ALS certification, a teaching qualification (e.g., 998), and relevant educational cardiac care courses.
Ideally, you should have completed an advanced assessment skills course and a prescribing course, or be willing to undertake these two courses. You should be currently enrolled in or working towards a relevant degree course.
The successful candidate must have the ability to travel to and from work, as well as be able to access any site within the Trust during a normal working day.
Main duties of the job
This role will involve identifying, supporting, and delivering high-quality chest pain and arrhythmia services, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS), Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC), and DC cardioversion (DCCV). The post holder will manage a caseload of patients effectively in accordance with agreed protocols and pathways of care. They will ensure a high standard of evidence-based nursing care by assessing the health, health-related, and holistic needs of patients, their families, and other carers, and by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Proactively identify, assess, and establish a plan of care for patients presenting with ACS and arrhythmia, with support from the medical team and senior specialist nursing team.
Order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and take appropriate actions.
Make and receive referrals. Manage the inter-hospital transfer list to ensure timely referrals and transfer of care to relevant tertiary centres.
Work autonomously within limitations and as part of a structured MDT with SOPs in place.
Deliver supported nurse-led clinics in response to service needs.
Support the team and organisation in delivering innovative services to improve patient access and facilitate early diagnoses.
Assess and meet patients’ ongoing care, health, and wellbeing needs; develop care plans and action referrals accordingly, ensuring clear documentation in patient records.
Proactively attend the Emergency Department for assessment of patients with potential ACS diagnoses and oversee their management.
Ensure all patients receive appropriate follow-up and relevant information to enable informed decisions about their treatment and care.
Take responsibility for managing the Inter-Hospital Transfer List for angiogram referrals.
Attend MDT meetings, including safety huddles and board rounds.
Deliver a seamless service via a multidisciplinary team approach, working collaboratively with other MDTs at Denmark Hill and GSTT to ensure safe and effective patient transfers.
Participate in identifying and developing clinical protocols and strategies to enhance continuity and standards of specialist care, while ensuring equity of access to the service.
Participate in the development and annual review of operational policies in accordance with national standards, ensuring all care is delivered per agreed protocols.
Liaise with the CCU nurse in charge to ensure appropriate and timely admission, discharge, and transfers of patients.
Perform DC cardioversion (DCCV) alongside a competent clinical nurse specialist or cardiology registrar.
Actively involve service users in providing feedback on their experience of the current service and suggestions for improvements.
Participate in relevant meetings at Care Group, Trust, Network, or National/International levels to represent the service perspective.

Education, Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Adult Nurse Level 1
- Advanced clinical assessment skills or willingness to develop these
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Significant post qualification experience (Degree) and/or extensive clinical experience in Cardiology; acute cardiology experience and/or acute care experience.
