Nursery Teacher - Plumstead

We are seeking a warm, dedicated, and enthusiastic Nursery Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Plumstead, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children at the very beginning of their educational journey, providing them with a nurturing, stimulating, and supportive environment in which to learn and develop.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for a nursery class, delivering high-quality early years provision that supports children’s personal, social, emotional, and academic development. The school places a strong emphasis on play-based learning, positive relationships, and early communication and language skills, and is looking for a teacher who is passionate about early childhood education.
You will be joining a supportive and experienced Early Years team that works collaboratively to ensure consistency, high standards, and a child-centred approach. Leadership is approachable and committed to supporting staff development and wellbeing.
The Role
As the Nursery Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging activities aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. You will create a safe, welcoming, and stimulating learning environment where children feel confident to explore, play, and learn.
You will observe and assess children’s progress, using this information to plan next steps and provide appropriate support for each child. Working closely with teaching assistants, parents, and colleagues, you will ensure that every child’s needs are understood and met.
Supporting children’s personal, social, and emotional development will be a key focus of the role, alongside developing early literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality nursery provision in line with the EYFS
Create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment
Observe, assess, and record children’s progress
Use assessment to inform planning and next steps
Promote positive behaviour, independence, and social skills
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and Early Years colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and reviews
Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with Early Years experience
Have strong knowledge of the EYFS framework
Be nurturing, patient, and enthusiastic
Have excellent communication and organisational skills
Be reflective and committed to professional development
Be dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
