Nursery Teacher - Plumstead

Marchant Recruitment
London

A Rewarding Early Years Teaching Opportunity

We are seeking a warm, dedicated, and enthusiastic Nursery Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Plumstead, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children at the very beginning of their educational journey, providing them with a nurturing, stimulating, and supportive environment in which to learn and develop.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for a nursery class, delivering high-quality early years provision that supports children’s personal, social, emotional, and academic development. The school places a strong emphasis on play-based learning, positive relationships, and early communication and language skills, and is looking for a teacher who is passionate about early childhood education.

You will be joining a supportive and experienced Early Years team that works collaboratively to ensure consistency, high standards, and a child-centred approach. Leadership is approachable and committed to supporting staff development and wellbeing.

The Role

As the Nursery Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging activities aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. You will create a safe, welcoming, and stimulating learning environment where children feel confident to explore, play, and learn.

You will observe and assess children’s progress, using this information to plan next steps and provide appropriate support for each child. Working closely with teaching assistants, parents, and colleagues, you will ensure that every child’s needs are understood and met.

Supporting children’s personal, social, and emotional development will be a key focus of the role, alongside developing early literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality nursery provision in line with the EYFS

  • Create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment

  • Observe, assess, and record children’s progress

  • Use assessment to inform planning and next steps

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and social skills

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and Early Years colleagues

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and reviews

  • Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with Early Years experience

  • Have strong knowledge of the EYFS framework

  • Be nurturing, patient, and enthusiastic

  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Be reflective and committed to professional development

  • Be dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Early Career Teachers with a passion for Early Years are encouraged to apply and will be supported appropriately.

Why Join This School?

  • Supportive and experienced Early Years leadership

  • Well-resourced indoor and outdoor learning environments

  • Opportunities for professional development and EYFS training

  • A collaborative and child-centred school culture

  • Leadership that values staff wellbeing and development

  • A welcoming and inclusive school community

Location

The school is based in Plumstead, with good transport links and strong community ties. Staff benefit from working in a positive, professional environment where early years education is highly valued.

How to Apply

To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, clearly outlining your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
