Caretaker - Croydon
Are you an experienced, proactive Caretaker who enjoys running a busy school site? A thriving primary school in Croydon is recruiting a dedicated Caretaker to join the site team from January 2026.
This Croydon Caretaker role is hands-on and varied: you will manage daily opening and closing, carry out essential repairs, coordinate contractors, maintain plant and heating systems and ensure the site is safe for pupils and staff. Induction and a thorough handover will be provided prior to January 2026, and the Caretaker will be in post from January 2026, with full support during the spring term.
Role responsibilities
Open and secure premises daily, perform routine safety inspections and maintain logbooks.
Carry out general maintenance tasks (basic plumbing, joinery, decorating) and flag major issues for specialist attention.
Maintain external areas, clear litter/debris and ensure safe walkways across the Croydon grounds.
Coordinate contractors, manage site supplies and run COSHH/health & safety checks.
Support school events and lettings by preparing rooms and facilities when required.
Person specification
Previous experience in caretaking, premises or facilities roles with practical maintenance skills.
Awareness of health & safety legislation, ability to manage contractors and keep accurate records.
Self-motivated, organised and able to work independently across the Croydon site.
Able to commence January 2026 and to attend induction and handover sessions before January 2026.
