Wayman Education is recruiting a Facilities Assistant for an Independent Secondary School in Hounslow. The school is seeking a dependable and practical individual who can help maintain a clean, safe and well-presented environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will support the premises team with the day-to-day upkeep of the school site, helping ensure classrooms, communal areas and facilities are ready for use. This position would suit someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail and understands the importance of maintaining a safe and functional school environment.
The Role
The Facilities Assistant will support the general maintenance and operation of the school premises, carrying out routine tasks and helping respond to facilities requirements as they arise.
Responsibilities will include checking that classrooms, corridors, offices and communal areas are presentable and ready for daily use. The successful candidate will assist with setting up rooms for meetings, assemblies, examinations and school events, including arranging furniture and moving equipment safely.
The role will involve reporting maintenance issues, identifying potential hazards and ensuring faults are communicated promptly to the appropriate member of the premises team. The Facilities Assistant may help with deliveries, the movement and storage of supplies, basic maintenance tasks within their competence and routine checks of school facilities.
Additional responsibilities may include supporting the preparation of outdoor areas, assisting with waste management arrangements and helping ensure equipment is stored correctly. The successful candidate will follow health and safety procedures, use equipment responsibly and maintain clear communication with colleagues regarding outstanding tasks.
The position may require flexibility around school events and operational needs, with duties allocated according to the priorities of the premises team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in facilities support, premises assistance, caretaking, maintenance or a similar practical role. Good organisational skills, reliability and a willingness to undertake a range of site-related tasks are essential.
The school is looking for someone who can work independently, follow instructions and identify issues that require attention. A practical approach, good communication skills and an understanding of workplace health and safety are important.
Candidates should be comfortable working in an educational environment and understand the importance of safeguarding, professional conduct and maintaining appropriate boundaries around pupils and visitors. Any relevant maintenance or health and safety training would be beneficial.
