Middle Office Operations & Technology Analyst
We are supporting a well-established, single-family office based in Kensington with the hire of a Middle Office Operations & Technology Analyst. This is a unique, hybrid role offering meaningful exposure across investment operations, reporting, and in-house technology development.
The position is intentionally phased. Initially, the role will be technology-led, focusing on automation, data, and reporting infrastructure. Over time, it will transition into a broader middle office operations role, supporting the day-to-day running of a buy-side investment platform.
Role Overview
- Initial focus: 70% technology / 30% operations
- Longer-term: 70% operations / 30% technology
- Acting as a key bridge between the investment team and internal systems
- Working closely with non-technical stakeholders to improve reporting, controls, and processes
- Opportunity to help shape and build out a growing middle office function
Key Responsibilities:
Technology & Reporting (initial primary focus)
- Writing and maintaining Python scripts to automate and simplify internal reporting
- Maintaining and enhancing existing reporting workflows across public and private assets
- Querying internal databases using SQL to support:
- Daily data uploads
- Liquidity and portfolio reporting
- Security and instrument data maintenance
- Data quality and “health check” monitoring
- Ad hoc analysis for investment and committee materials
- Developing and maintaining self-contained reporting solutions using JavaScript (with HTML/CSS and some exposure to GraphQL)
- Supporting performance, ownership, and group-level reporting initiatives
- Building templates and tools to facilitate clean data ingestion from third-party sources
- Maintaining and enhancing Excel-based solutions, including macro-heavy spreadsheets (VBA) and advanced formulas
Middle Office Operations (growing focus over time)
- Supporting day-to-day middle office activities within a buy-side environment
- Assisting with trade lifecycle support, reconciliations, and data oversight
- Supporting portfolio monitoring, investment reporting, and risk oversight
- Helping design, document, and improve investment operations processes
- Acting as a generalist resource to the investment team across operational and reporting needs
Candidate Profile
- Experience within buy-side investment management, asset management, or a family office environment
- Strong technical capability, particularly in Python and SQL
- Comfortable working as a s ole developer / technical resource, with autonomy and ownership
- Able to translate requirements from non-technical stakeholders into practical solutions
- Solid understanding (or strong interest in developing understanding) of middle office and investment operations
- Strong Excel skills, including VBA and advanced formulas
- Curious, pragmatic, and willing to get involved across a wide and evolving remit
