SEN Teaching Assistant - Wandsworth

Marchant Recruitment
London

We are seeking a caring, patient, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Wandsworth, starting ASAP. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs and helping them access learning in a positive and inclusive environment.

The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a well-established SEN provision. Staff work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive tailored support. The leadership team values SEN support staff and provides guidance, training, and ongoing support.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of additional needs, which may include autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, or social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, depending on pupil requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to pupils with special educational needs

  • Work 1:1 or with small groups to support learning and engagement

  • Support pupils with academic tasks, communication, and emotional regulation

  • Implement strategies from EHCPs and individual support plans

  • Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction

  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and playtimes

  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, and support staff

  • Monitor and record pupil progress

  • Promote independence while offering appropriate support

  • Follow safeguarding and inclusion policies at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting

  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient

  • Have a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs

  • Be confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable

  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing

Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication difficulties is highly desirable, though training can be provided for the right candidate.

The school is based in Wandsworth, with excellent transport links and a welcoming local community. You will be joining a supportive team in a positive working environment.

How to Apply

Please submit an up-to-date CV outlining your experience and suitability for the role.
