Year 1 Teacher - Rainham

Marchant Recruitment
Havering, Greater London

We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Rainham, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who loves Key Stage 1 education and is committed to supporting children as they transition from EYFS into more structured learning, laying strong foundations for literacy, numeracy, and social development.

The school has a strong ethos of inclusion, collaboration, and high expectations. Staff work closely together to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where every child feels safe, confident, and motivated to learn. Senior leadership is approachable and supportive, providing mentoring, guidance, and opportunities for professional development.

The Role

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. You will foster independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours while providing tailored support for pupils with diverse needs, including those with SEND and EAL. You will work closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and parents to ensure consistency and high standards across the year group.

Your role will also involve observing and tracking pupil progress, supporting social and emotional development, and creating an inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons across the Year 1 curriculum

  • Deliver high-quality literacy, numeracy, and foundation subject lessons

  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL

  • Support pupils’ independence, resilience, and positive behaviour

  • Maintain a structured, inclusive, and positive classroom environment

  • Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records

  • Collaborate effectively with teaching assistants and colleagues

  • Build strong relationships with parents and carers, providing regular feedback

  • Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and school initiatives

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are strictly followed

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and organisational skills

  • Be nurturing, enthusiastic, and adaptable

  • Show a clear understanding of early primary teaching and learning

  • Be reflective, proactive, and committed to professional development

  • Have a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing

Location

The school is based in Rainham, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community. Staff benefit from a professional, collaborative, and well-resourced working environment.

How to Apply

To apply, please submit an up-to-date CV outlining your experience and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP
This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
