Loan Syndicate - EMEA Leveraged Loans - Associate

The Leveraged Loan Syndicate team is responsible for the origination, structuring, syndication and execution of syndicated loans for high yield and leveraged borrowers in EMEA. We regularly act as coordinating and/or underwriting bank and provide advice and market expertise to ING’s clients and relevant departments within ING. The team is split between London and Amsterdam
Core Tasks & Material Responsibilities:
Deal Execution & Coordination: Lead the end-to-end syndication process for leveraged loans, coordinating across internal origination, sales, and legal teams to ensure seamless deal flow from mandate to closing.
Market Intelligence & Pricing Strategy: Provide senior leadership with actionable views on syndication strategy, pricing rationales, and liquidity analysis by performing relative value assessments and transaction benchmarking.
Marketing & Investor Engagement: Drive the preparation of high-impact marketing materials, including information memoranda and investor presentations, while managing data sites and responding to complex lender inquiries during the book-building process.
Risk Management & Committee Support: Draft comprehensive syndicate memos for internal credit and underwriting committees, detailing market sentiment, structural risks, and proposed sell-down strategies.
Junior Mentorship & Quality Control: Act as a point of learning for Analysts and monitor quality and accuracy of their output.
Liaising closely with colleagues in other CMA departments to deliver integrated solutions to ING’s clients.
Represent ING professionally at site visits, management presentations and client meetings and start to build relationships with market counterparties and peers.
Keep informed regarding client and market activity and regarding relevant debt and equity products.
Maintain and strengthen contacts within relevant CMA stakeholder teams, at all levels, including Risk Management, FM, Compliance teams as well as developing proximity to all other CMA teams, including advanced knowledge of corporate finance, leveraged finance, capital markets and underwriting / loan distribution and sales.
Compliance & Non-Financial Risk undertaking to be responsible for understanding how the FCA Conduct Rules apply to you, your role and team. Responsible for ensuring your business complies with the spirit and letter of the Conduct Rules and all legal, regulatory and ethical standards including ING policies, procedures, guidance and the Orange Code.
Candidate Profile
3–4 years of relevant experience in Leveraged Finance Origination and/or Leveraged Finance Capital Markets / Syndicate (or closely related to leveraged capital markets experience).
Hold a University Degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) from a top-tier institution, ideally in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field, demonstrating strong analytical foundations (Master’s degree preferred);
Have a strong preference for working in a deal driven environment;
Be able to/have passed all relevant regulatory exams;
Fluent in verbal and written English;
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and expert navigation of financial intelligence tools including Bloomberg, PitchBook, and 9fin. Experienced in managing syndicated loan workflows via platforms such as Debtdomain, SyndTrak, and Lendamend
Be eager to learn, curious, self-starting and have a “take it on and make it happen” mentality.
