Senior Internal Auditor
Role Overview
Purpose:
- Provide independent and objective assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of Brightwell’s internal controls, risk management and governance processes.
- Support the Head of Internal Audit to deliver the annual audit plan, embed the internal audit framework, bringing fresh thinking, best practice, and positive challenge to influence and contribute to the growth and future success of Brightwell.
- Contribute towards the continuous improvement of Brightwell’s processes and control environment.
Main responsibilities:
- Plan, lead and execute internal audits across a range of business functions (Funding and Fiduciary, Pensions administration, Technology audits and Group functions).
- Lead and be responsible for stakeholder relationships, challenging positively and building relationships and knowledge of the business and industry.
- Support the Head of Internal Audit with the annual planning process, conducting risk assessment to inform the plan as well as the scope of individual audits.
- Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, policies and procedures.
- Identify areas of risk (operational, financial, and compliance) and support the business in identifying appropriate actions.
- Prepare clear, concise and insightful audit reports for senior management, the Brightwell Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee (“RACC”) and for the BTPS Trustees Audit and Risk Committee (“ARC”).
- Follow up and validate audit issues and actions to ensure timely implementation of agreed actions.
- Ensure own knowledge remains up to date on both Global Internal Audit Standards, but also relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
- Demonstrate data analytics skills on audits which may include better visualisation, full population or improved testing as part of individual audits.
- Work with external co-source providers to support delivery of the audit plan.
Person Specification
Essential skills and experience:
- Degree and professional qualification in a relevant field (e.g. CIA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
- Proven ability of understanding Internal Audit within the pensions and/or asset management industry.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Strong understanding of internal control frameworks, risk assessment and audit standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication/ interpersonal skills, with ability to present findings to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders.
- High ethical standards, professional scepticism and sound judgement.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive and use own initiative.
- The role is London based and hybrid (50% of time in the office).
- Minimal travel (<5%) with occasional travel to other offices (Chesterfield, Bristol)
Desirable:
- Demonstrable experience successfully working in a similar role for a similar organisation.
- Experience of working in a regulated environment (e.g. TPR, FCA)
- Good understanding of use of data analytics.
