Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer - Water Sector

Stantec UK
London
The Opportunity

Are you a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer passionate about delivering sustainable solutions? Join Stantec, and help shape the future of the UK water sector.

This is an exciting time to join Stantec as the UK water sector undergoes record investment through the AMP8 cycle. We are expanding our expert engineering teams and are looking for a key leader to join us in London, Reading, or HighWycombe.

You won't just be joining a team; you'll be joining a highly collaborative, close-knit, and award-winning culture (NCE Best Place to Work 2024) consistently recognized globally as a leader in sustainability.

We offer genuinely flexible working arrangements and a pathway to technical leadership and mentorship, with opportunities for line management responsibilities for the right candidate. We invest in you with a competitive salary, excellent pension, free private medical insurance, and industry-leading training.

What You'll Be Doing: Leading End-to-End Design

You will be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept through to construction support. Your primary responsibility will be leading the mechanical design for critical infrastructure and non-infrastructure water projects.

This includes taking charge of design for:

  • Water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Conveyance systems and pumping stations.
  • Managing feasibility studies, optioneering, detailed design packages, site surveys, and investigations.
You will work closely with clients, project managers, and multi-disciplinary teams across all stages to ensure positive and successful project outcomes. You will also play a key role in the mentorship and guidance of our junior engineers.

About You

You will be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related subject. You must possess proven, substantial experience in design within the water industry, while experience in design for construction would also be beneficial.

Ideally, you will hold Chartered status or be actively working towards it. While not essential, a background working for or closely with delivery contractors would be highly beneficial to your success in this role.
