Our Energy Products Practice is looking for an experienced (job title/level) to join the team.

Baringa are world leaders in modelling energy markets and using the insights generated through these models to drive change in a decarbonising energy industry. The Energy Products practice specialises in the development and innovation of our analytical models and supporting technology ecosystem underpinned by our deep expertise in the energy markets.

Our staff come from diverse backgrounds, based across multiple geographies, and building models that utilise highly varied data sources – everything from kilobytes of academic papers to terabytes of hourly scenario projections for 50+ years. They need rapid access to data, analytics outputs, and highly scalable data processing infrastructure. Our scale and model complexity has reached a point that to continue to achieve our business vision, we are building a dedicated global Data and Processing Platform team.

What you will be doing

We are looking for a Senior Platform Software Engineer to join as a core member of the Data and Processing Platform team, taking on a key role alongside the Engineering Lead to build the foundations and shared capabilities that support Baringa’s continued growth and evolution.

• You will help shape the design, implementation and ongoing support of a greenfield Data and Processing Platform and its supporting software products

• You will support the Engineering Lead to engage with internal developers, energy system modellers, client-facing energy experts, and users across the business to build capabilities that enable them to work more effectively and better serve our clients.

• You will help drive engineering best practices, ensuring that quality, reliability and observability are built into our products from inception.

• You will design and implement robust CI/CD automation flows, continually evolving our processes to improve the engineering experience for ourselves and the teams we support.

• You will take an active role in all stages of the team’s agile development approach, from refinement through to delivery, supporting the iterative improvement of our team processes.

Your skills and experience

• You are passionate about building the ‘right’ solution to problems, with a desire to understand the problems at their core and ‘why’ a solution is fit for purpose.

• You will have practical experience as a senior engineer in high-performing engineering teams, collaborating closely with colleagues and taking pride in what you create.

• You are strong at solving complex problems and can flexibly consider different technologies/engineering approaches to achieve this.
