School Receptionist | Primary School | Southwark
The Opportunity
Southwark is a vibrant, diverse borough at the heart of London, characterized by its mix of historic landmarks and modern regeneration. We are seeking a professional, warm, and highly organized School Receptionist to join our primary school team. As the first point of contact for our families, you will play a pivotal role in creating a welcoming and secure environment for our pupils, ensuring the school day begins and ends smoothly for our entire community.
The Role & Department
You will be based in a busy primary office, serving as the face of the school for parents, carers, and local community partners.
This role requires a nurturing approach and the ability to multi-task in an environment where student welfare is the top priority.
You will work closely with the Headteacher and the School Business Manager to provide essential administrative support that allows our teaching staff to focus on the classroom.
The school offers a friendly, inclusive atmosphere where every member of the support staff is recognized as an educator in their own right.
Core Responsibilities
The Welcome Desk: Greeting parents and visitors, managing the electronic sign-in system, and ensuring that all guests follow the school's strict Safeguarding and Child Protection protocols.
Attendance & Admissions: Maintaining the school’s Management Information System ( Arbor or SIMS ) to record daily attendance, manage late arrivals, and assist with the primary admissions process.
Parental Communication: Managing the school’s text and email systems to keep parents informed about assemblies, trips, and school closures, while handling sensitive queries with discretion.
Student Welfare: Assisting children who come to the office with minor injuries or concerns, coordinating with the school’s first aid leads, and managing the safe collection of pupils at the end of the day.
Clerical Support: Providing general administrative assistance, including the preparation of newsletters, managing school meal accounts, and coordinating the distribution of school uniforms.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for an individual who can balance a high level of professionalism with a genuine care for children and families. Requirements include:
Experience: Previous experience in a school office or a front-facing customer service role is highly desirable.
Communication Skills: A clear, empathetic, and professional speaking manner, with the ability to support families for whom English may be an additional language.
Tech Proficiency: Confidence using Microsoft Office and a willingness to master school-specific software (SIMS/Arbor/ParentPay).
Reliability: Exceptional time-keeping and the ability to remain calm and organized during the busy morning and afternoon "gate" periods.
Why Join Us?
A role at the heart of a supportive Southwark community where you can build lasting relationships with families.
Access to specialized training in Primary School Administration and Safeguarding.
The opportunity to work in a well-connected London borough with excellent access to the Underground and Overground networks.
A term-time-only contract that offers a positive work-life balance within a dedicated and friendly staff team.
How to Apply
Please submit your current CV to begin the application process for this School Receptionist position. An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.
