Lead Data Engineer

London – Hybrid, 1 day per week in the Liverpool Street office

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to lead our Data Platform team, who builds our data pipelines, looks after our data quality and manage the data warehouse that houses the data at the core of our products at FXC Intelligence.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Line management of the Data Platform team engineers

  • Translating the strategic roadmap into actionable small tasks and providing visibility on delivery progress to stakeholders

  • Doing or overseeing research and technical investigations, representing and prioritising the resulting improvements against other stakeholder priorities

  • Improving and automating team processes – release of new features, cross-team collaboration and inspiring the culture of innovation and growth in the team

  • Implementation of new and maintenance of existing tables and pipelines in our data warehouse

  • Improvements to the platform in the areas of data quality, performance and observability

About the team:

  • You will join a technical team of c. 40 technologists with a key purpose of continuously and reliably collecting large amounts of financial data describing cross-border payments, then processing the data, checking the quality and serving it to our users so that they can make the best business decisions

  • The Data Platform team consists of five Data Engineers, varying in seniority. You will be responsible for the line management of some of them, potentially taking on more as you get more familiar with the company.

  • We have four more technical delivery teams, and as the data platform is the centre of all data flows, you will regularly interact with other team leads and product owners.

  • You will also have a lot of interaction with our fantastic Data Analysts and Technical Business Analysts.

You should apply if you have:

  • Experience with advanced SQL, database management and data modelling

  • Experience building or maintaining third-party or in-house data quality and cataloguing solutions

  • DBT, Airflow (or other task orchestration tools), Kafka/RabbitMQ

  • A proactive approach, with the ability to set and exemplify high standards

  • Proven experience and a desire to manage a team

  • A desire to understand and engage with the business domain and product

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively

  • A love for learning and improving your skills

  • Experience collaborating with a BI, DA and/or ML team

These skills will help, but aren’t essential:

  • Prior experience working for a data product company or being involved with Big Data

  • Involvement in web scraping and/or backend development

  • Experience utilising AI to increase team productivity, efficiency and data quality

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change quickly

Tech Stack:

  • ClickHouse, Airflow, DBT, Python, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Mongo, DataHub, AirByte, SageMaker
