Principal Engineer - Paddington, Greater London
FM Conway is currently looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to join our dynamic Consultancy division. In this key role, you will liaise closely with clients, contractors, and third parties, while also coordinating with internal teams across the business, including Term Maintenance, Civils, Structures and Lighting. You will be responsible for resolving technical issues as they arise, monitoring project progress within your area, and ensuring high-quality delivery. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our Paddington office.
The duties of the Principal Engineer will include:
-Leading and managing the design and delivery of highway engineering solutions, ensuring they meet client requirements, project specifications, and relevant design standards, while delivering high-quality, cost-effective outcomes
-Establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, contractors, utility providers, and other agencies, to ensure smooth project delivery and stakeholder alignment
-Preparing and submit accurate monthly programme and financial reports, tracking project progress, resource allocation, and budgetary performance to ensure timely delivery and cost control
-Acting as a key liaison with the client team, providing regular updates on project milestones, resolving issues promptly, and maintaining a high level of client satisfaction and trust
-Producing comprehensive technical documentation, including reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities, cost estimates, and specifications, in accordance with internal procedures and industry standards
-Ensuring that technical reports and project correspondence reflect current industry policies, standards, and best practices, and are delivered to high quality and within agreed timelines
What skills and experience do you need?
We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Engineer with a strong background in urban design within a consultancy environment, and a solid understanding of both local and national standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with local government and private sector clients and have a good working knowledge of contract types and procurement methods, including NEC3. You’ll bring a mix of office and site experience, along with proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD and the MS Office suite. You should hold a relevant degree and be a member of an appropriate professional institution (IEng or equivalent). Strong communication skills , high professional integrity, and a recognised presence within the industry are essential.
