SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant - Redbridge
We are seeking a patient, nurturing, and committed SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs at a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Redbridge, starting as soon as possible. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a dedicated SEN team that works closely with pupils, families, and external professionals. Staff are supportive, collaborative, and committed to creating a positive learning environment where every child feels safe, understood, and valued.
In this role, you will work one-to-one with a pupil who requires additional support throughout the school day. The pupil may have needs such as autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). You will provide consistent support, helping the pupil access learning, manage emotions, and develop confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities

Support the pupil with learning activities, following teacher guidance
Help the pupil regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
Implement strategies from the pupil’s IEP, EHCP, or behaviour plan
Support communication, social skills, and engagement with peers
Assist with transitions between lessons and activities
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff
Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff
Promote independence while offering appropriate levels of support
Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and school policies at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly in a 1:1 role
Be calm, patient, and empathetic
Have a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
Be confident supporting behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement
Have strong communication and teamwork skills
Be reliable, resilient, and adaptable
Be committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication needs is highly desirable. However, the school is also keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience and a strong desire to work in SEN education.
The school is based in Redbridge and is easily accessible via public transport. You will be joining a school that values staff wellbeing and provides ongoing support and guidance to SEN staff.
