Postdoctoral Research Associate

About the Role

This experienced post-doctoral position is to quantify, characterise and define extracellular vesicles obtained from preclinical and clinical samples in the context of chronic nociception. The PDRA will have experience of sophisticated equipment to study the physio-pathology of extracellular vesicles, working in concert with the other two academic partners and the industrial partner, to deliver the aims of the programme. The PDRA will join a team working on extracellular vesicles as well as other aspects of inflammation resolution, with close attention to the exploit this science for innovative therapeutic approaches.

Funded by a UKRI/MRC programme, the PDRA will join an active team (three academic units, and one industrial partner) devoted to define the characterization and biology of extracellular vesicles. The focus is to define extracellular vesicles in dorsal root ganglia and associate their functions, and compositions, to chronic pain. Subsequent aim is to develop vesicles fortified with specific components and establish if and how control nociception. Finally, some of the new discoveries will be applied to biomarker research through analysis of human plasma samples provided by the industrial partner.

About You

You are fascinated by scientific research of extracellular vesicles with the aim of identify and possibly develop novel therapeutic approaches to mitigate if not control chronic diseases that affect our society. You will have a PhD in a scientific discipline with previous experience of extracellular vesicle research, including per-reviewed publications.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

Located at the Charterhouse Square Campus, the Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology is formed by approximately 50 members including 12 Academic staff and 21 Research staff. The Centre is also home to 20 PhD students. The Centre has broad-ranging research interests covering the mechanisms of inflammation and resolution, tolerance and innate & adaptive immunity.
