A highly respected and academically ambitious private school in Newham is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Religious Education Teacher to join its thriving humanities faculty. Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Deliver engaging and academically rigorous Religious Education lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential for Key Stage 5
Plan well-structured lessons that encourage critical thinking, discussion, and independent reflection
Develop pupils’ understanding of world religions, ethics, philosophy, and contemporary moral issues
Differentiate teaching to ensure challenge and support for all learners
Prepare pupils effectively for internal assessments and public examinations
Assessment & Progress
Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress using a range of assessment strategies
Provide high-quality feedback to support academic improvement
Use data effectively to identify gaps in learning and implement targeted support
Support pupils in developing strong exam and essay-writing techniques
Student Support & Pastoral Care
Build positive and respectful relationships with pupils to support engagement and achievement
Contribute to the pastoral life of the school and uphold safeguarding responsibilities
Support pupils’ personal development, encouraging empathy, respect, and cultural awareness
Curriculum & Department Contribution
Contribute to the ongoing development of the Religious Education curriculum
Collaborate with colleagues to share resources and best practice
Participate in departmental planning, meetings, and quality assurance processes
Support enrichment opportunities such as debates, speaker events, and trips
Wider School Contribution
Contribute to school life beyond the classroom, including enrichment and extracurricular activities
Engage in parent consultations, open events, and school community activities
Participate in ongoing professional development and training
Person Specification
Essential
Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Philosophy, or related subject
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Experience teaching Religious Education at secondary level
Strong subject knowledge and passion for the discipline
Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom management skills
Commitment to high standards of teaching and learning
Desirable
Experience teaching Religious Education in a private school setting
Experience teaching GCSE and/or A Level Religious Studies
Strong record of supporting pupil progress and academic outcomes
Interest in interdisciplinary approaches (Philosophy, Ethics, Theology)
Personal Qualities
Passionate about education and inspiring young minds
Reflective, proactive, and adaptable teaching approach
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Commitment to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing
Working Pattern
Monday to Friday
Full-time teaching timetable in line with school expectations
