About the Role
As an Engineering Underwriter with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in London, you'll apply your engineering expertise to evaluate and manage insurance risks for significant construction projects worldwide. This dynamic role bridges technical engineering knowledge with insurance strategy, offering a stimulating alternative career path for experienced engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and analyze complex engineering risks, negotiating appropriate insurance terms and conditions
- Monitor and evaluate ongoing project performance, developing and following up on risk management recommendations
- Provide technical expertise to the claims team during incident investigations and resolution processes
- Deliver consultative support to clients and brokers on engineering risk matters
- Manage policy adaptations in response to project changes throughout coverage periods
- Develop underwriting expertise through Swiss Re's renowned training programs, with a clear path to becoming a full underwriter
About the Team
Our Engineering & Construction team in London comprises 5 specialized Underwriters managing a diverse portfolio spanning Power, Petrochemical, Civil, and Building projects. You'll join a collaborative group of experts who combine technical engineering knowledge with insurance acumen to protect complex infrastructure developments worldwide.
About You
You're a technically skilled engineer with excellent communication abilities who thrives on intellectual challenges. Your natural curiosity drives you to continuously expand your knowledge, and you take initiative to implement solutions independently. You enjoy translating complex technical concepts into practical risk assessments and can build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 5-8 years of hands-on engineering experience (chartered status preferred)
- Strong digital literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Office, databases, and data analytics tools
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical information and make sound risk judgments
- Willingness to travel primarily within Europe
These are additional nice to haves:
- Professional insurance qualifications or previous exposure to the insurance industry
- Multiple language skills (business-fluent English required, additional languages advantageous)
- Experience with digital solutions and emerging technologies in engineering or insurance
- Background in international construction projects
- Strong presentation and negotiation skills #LI-Hybrid
For London, the annual base salary range for this position is between GBP 63 000 and GBP 95 000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
