The London Borough of Hackney is seeking passionate, committed, and community-driven Youth Workers to join the Young Hackney team. You’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, open-access and targeted youth work programmes through our Youth Hubs, schools, and community settings. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are enthusiastic about empowering young people, improving life outcomes, and building safer, stronger communities through inclusive youth engagement.

About the Role:

As a Youth Worker, you’ll contribute to a wide range of youth-focused services and activities designed to:

* Provide safe spaces for socialising and personal development

* Offer meaningful alternatives to crime, exclusion, and disengagement

* Help young people transition successfully into adulthood and employment

You’ll be working face-to-face with young people aged 11–19 (up to 25 for those with SEND) across Hackney, providing group sessions, one-to-one support, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Delivery

* Contribute to a 7-day programme of term-time, holiday, and residential youth activities

* Design and deliver open access and targeted youth work sessions tailored to the needs of local communities

* Ensure programmes support physical and emotional wellbeing, education, employability and personal development

Direct Youth Work

* Build honest, supportive relationships with young people, including those who are vulnerable or hard to reach

* Support early intervention by identifying needs, assessing risk and signposting to appropriate services

* Engage in outreach in schools, streets and neighbourhoods

* Encourage youth participation in programme design, evaluation and service feedback

Partnership Working

* Collaborate with schools, Police, Social Care, health services and voluntary organisations

* Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures in line with the London Child Protection Guidelines

Monitoring & Evaluation

* Record attendance and progress using outcomes-based tools and recognised accreditations

* Support programme quality, improvement and impact measurement

Safeguarding, Equality & Inclusion

* Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people

* Model inclusive, anti-discriminatory practice

* Deliver services that reflect Hackney’s diverse communities and support young people with SEND

About You:

We’re looking for Youth Workers who are:

Passionate about young people’s development
Creative and enthusiastic with a positive, resilient attitude
Able to engage children, young people and families from diverse backgrounds
Experienced in delivering structured, engaging and inclusive activities
Committed to safeguarding, equality, and youth participation

Essential Requirements:

* Experience delivering open access or targeted youth work or participation programmes

* Knowledge of youth development, safeguarding and multi-agency working

* Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holiday periods

* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable (but not essential):

* Relevant qualification in Youth Work or Play Work (Level 2/3)

* First Aid Certificate

* Qualifications in arts, sports or outdoor education (e.g. Music, Drama, FA Level 1)

* Understanding of accreditation tools (e.g. AQA, Youth Achievement Awards)

What We Offer:

* A dynamic, supportive team in one of London’s most vibrant boroughs

* Access to state-of-the-art Youth Hubs and resources

* Ongoing CPD and opportunities to grow your career in youth services

* A role where your work has a real, lasting impact
