Premises Assistant - Ambitious Secondary Academy in Tower...
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Shift Pattern)
Salary: Paid to scale (Inner London Support Framework)
The Role
An ambitious Secondary Academy in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets is seeking a professional, proactive, and highly organised Premises Assistant to join their energetic on-site estates team. This is a brilliant opportunity for a handy, practical individual looking to establish a stable career in facilities management within a highly structured and supportive educational environment.
The successful candidate will work across a rotating shift system (covering early openings or late evening building lockups) to maintain site security and operational readiness. Day-to-day duties include conducting dynamic security sweeps, setting up multi-use halls for assemblies and exams, managing waste clearance schemes, and accepting large-scale logistical deliveries. Additionally, you will handle minor fabric maintenance tasks—such as painting, assembling furniture tracking assets, unblocking localized drainage facilities, and conducting statutory safety checks like water temperature monitoring and fire alarm tests.
You will maintain professional communication channels with the Site Manager, teaching staff, and external cleaning networks, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Strong time-management skills are required to balance urgent, reactive porterage requests with routine compliance tasks in a busy urban academy environment.
The school is seeking a reliable professional who takes pride in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students. A basic level of IT literacy is essential to update maintenance tasks on the school's digital helpdesk platform, alongside a collaborative, solutions-focused attitude.
School Information
This is an 11 to 18 well-established Academy in Tower Hamlets with a powerful commitment to community inclusion, student progress, and operational excellence. Serving a vibrant and diverse East London community, the school boasts modern, high-spec facilities and an inclusive, warm team culture.
Support staff are deeply valued members of the school community. The academy actively prioritizes a healthy work-life balance, clear communication across all faculties, and funded opportunities for continuous technical training (including manual handling, working at heights, and COSHH certifications).
Requirements
Previous practical experience in caretaking, basic building trade operations, or property maintenance
Strong hands-on competency in basic DIY, painting, or fabric repair workflows
Good physical fitness to manage active daily porterage and site monitoring requirements
Basic IT skills to access digital registration systems and logging queues
Ability to work flexibly across a rotating shift framework
Application
To apply, please send your comprehensive CV as soon as possible.
