UNOPS ETMCO is recruiting for this position: Driver/Messenger based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This is a local postion, and is hence open to Ethiopian nationals only. Under the general supervision of the Adminstration Officer in Ethiopia, the Driver/Messenger provides reliable and safe driving services and clerical support ensuring high accuracy of work. The incumbent demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver/Messenger provides driving services to the staff in the office, consultants and experts and UNOPS staff on mission. The incumbent also provides clerical support services inside and messenger services outside the office.

Functional Responsibilities

The Driver/Messenger will be responsible for the below listed tasks.

Driving Functions

Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicles through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs for the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Messenger Functions

Ensures prompt and accurate delivery of mails to all UN agencies, multilateral, bilateral, embassies and consular, government and non-governmental agencies/organizations operating from Addis Ababa. Delivers documents to the courier companies and other locations as required. Takes care of office documents for protocol clearance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other government agencies, Embassies and other international organizations operating from Addis Ababa. Also collects all documents destined to UNOPS ETOH office. Assists on clerical work in the office when not performing messenger and driving functions. Specifically, S/he binds documents destined to the UNOPS ETOH office and other partners, and ensures that documents for filing are well arranged for easy tracking by the Support Service / Operation Staff. Expedite functions related to staff visa and customs formalities arrangement when required. Provide support for Admin Unit with office procurement by collecting proforma, bill payments for Ethio Telecom, collect procured items,. Support Procurement and Logistic Service

Provide support to the procurement team by facilitating the delivery of procured items, inspection works on received items such as conducting Pre Delivery Inspections, handover items to the relevant offices and partners Collect Receive Inspection Report (RIR) and ensure it is signed upon delivery of the shipment to the partner's warehouse and handover items to the relevant Ministry offices and other partners. Ensure final Good Receiving Notes (GRNs) are received after inspection of the delivered shipments by partners' representatives Facilitate the customs clearance, inspection, loading and unloading of any items that the office import including follow up each process with the concerned government offices

Results Expected:

The key result is accurate, safe and timely execution of the UNOPS office services Timely execution of delivery functions; Proactive handle and follow-up on procurement and logistics processes including pre delivery inspections, handovers, customs clearance, inspection, loading and unloading of imported items Client satisfaction based on feedback against performance and measurements; The office car is always in good and serviceable condition. Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

Completion of Secondary School is required. A Technical Diploma in Automotive is an added advantage.

Work Experience

A minimum of three (3) years' work experience as a driver with safe driving record is required. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair is an asset. Experience working with UN/INGOs will be an advantage. Certifications A valid driver's license with minimum 3rd grade level is required. Language

Fluency in spoken, reading and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
