Senior Product Manager, API Standards

HSBC Global Services Limited
London

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Product Manager, API Standards.

You’ll define govern and evolve our API standards to enable secure, scalable, and consistent client connectivity across APIs and ERP/TMS integrations. You’ll help shape secure, interoperable, well-governed APIs across REST and event-driven architectures balancing client experience, engineering practicality, regulatory expectations, and commercial outcomes—enabling teams to deliver integrations faster, more safely, and with less rework, while ensuring customers benefit from a consistent implementation experience.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Own and drive the API standards roadmap, covering design guidelines, versioning, error handling, security patterns, eventing, documentation, billing, servicing, testing standards and SDKs, aligned to the target architecture and wider Client Connectivity
  • Ensure standards keep pace with evolving client needs, market infrastructure changes, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies
  • Establish and enforce governance to ensure consistent adoption of standards and a high-quality customer implementation experience
  • Establish and maintain controls to monitor and evidence compliance with API delivery standards.
  • Provide consultancy and coaching to product and engineering teams; run clinics and design reviews to accelerate adoption.
  • Track and report adoption, API quality metrics and outcomes; drive continuous improvement and remediation plans where gaps exist.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning for API enablement capabilities
  • Partner with Product, Channel, Line of Business and IT teams to deliver customer-centric, end-to-end governance and consistent API standards across entire client connectivity channel layers and underlying product domains, migrating deprecated APIs to the new standards while accommodating justified local and regulatory variations
  • Ensuring consistent delivery across external and internal IT-led APIs, providing a seamless end-to-end experience that is reliable, secure, and easy to use across channels and products

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Proven product management experience delivering digital products/platform capabilities
  • Strong knowledge of API ecosystems, developer experience, and platform-based operating models
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional delivery across regions and disciplines
  • Excellent communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills; able to translate complex technology into client-centric value
  • Strong managerial, leadership, communications, organizational, decision-making, lateral thinking, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Client centric, collaborative mindset with the ability to translate complex technology into client centric solutions
  • Experience implementing standards and governance at scale
  • Ability to influence without authority and drive alignment across multiple teams and markets

Opening up a world of opportunity.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve.
