The team you’ll work with:

The Head of Transactional Credit is a leadership role reporting to the Head of Growth & Financing. The role is responsible and accountable for leading the Transactional Credit Team (TCT) to ensure timely, accurate and well-controlled execution of client transactional credit requests, ensuring strong risk discipline and adherence to policy and process. In parallel, the role also owns the delivery and management of our Associate Development Programme (ADP), including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, training, rotation allocation and day-to-day oversight of Associate cohorts to build a strong, diverse talent pipeline aligned to business needs.

The role holder will work closely with Relationship Management teams, Debt Finance, and Credit Risk partners to ensure client needs are met efficiently through TCT and ADP while maintaining HSBC’s risk culture and conduct expectations. A typical day may include prioritising and reviewing live client limit requests, removing execution blockers, coaching team members, aligning on risk and credit requirements with partners, planning Associate rotations with business heads, and ensuring a consistent, high-quality ADP experience across the programme.

 

What you can expect to be doing:

Transactional Credit Team (TCT) – execution, control and client outcomes

Leads a small team of TCT colleagues, setting clear direction and ensuring effective capacity management to meet service expectations

Ensures that TCT executes client limit and transactional credit requests effectively, adhering to agreed process, documentation standards, and relevant policy requirements

Maintains strong risk discipline across all requests, ensuring appropriate controls are embedded, understood and consistently applied; escalates issues and exceptions promptly and transparently

Partners closely with Relationship Management teams, Debt Finance and Credit Risk to align on client priorities, structure considerations, credit appetite and approvals, and to drive timely end-to-end execution

Supports initiatives to drive wallet share through the provision of transaction banking credit products

Monitors workflow and outcomes (e.g., timeliness, quality, rework themes), using insights to improve execution, reduce friction, and strengthen control effectiveness

Associate Development Programme (ADP) – talent pipeline, programme delivery and colleague development

Owns planning for the ADP, including cohort sizing, intake timing, onboarding approach, training plan and rotation allocation, in close partnership with the business

Partners closely with the business to identify future FTE needs and works with Staffing to source and secure diverse top talent for the programme

Oversees ADP Associates day-to-day, providing guidance and coaching; manages workload where required; drives skills development, career development, and provides ongoing feedback to support performance and progression

Works closely with team heads across the business to ensure a consistent ADP experience and that Associate learning objectives are met whilst on rotation

Ensures regular structured feedback is received from rotation teams regarding Associates, and uses it to improve the programme and address development needs early

 

Requirements:

  • Credit underwriting and portfolio management experience in a commercial banking environment, preferably with knowledge of the Innovation Economy
  • Ability to coach and develop less experienced staff members, enabling improved efficiency and effectiveness
  • Able to proactively manage stakeholders and business partners across Relationship Management, Debt Finance, Credit Risk and enabling functions
  • Able to effectively manage resources to optimise process, throughput and outcomes while maintaining control standards
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to simplify complex issues and align partners quickly
  • High attention to detail, with a consistent focus on quality of execution and documentation

 

Where you’ll be based:

Our home office in Finsbury Square, London. We offer hybrid working to our employees, so you can flex between home and the office, with a current requirement to be in the office 2 days per week.
