Technical Project Manager
Location: Hybrid working in London office
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 12-month contract
Daily Rate: £250 - £350 per day PAYE (Negotiable) Summary
As a Project Manager, you will be a critical member of the team and work closely with a multi-disciplinary group of researchers. You’ll ensure that all the tactical needs of the team are met to enable our ambitious research programs to succeed. You will work with researchers, engineers, product, legal, and policy to build impactful relationships, serve as a dependable point of contact, and ensure your program’s needs are met. To be successful, you will be eliminating barriers to your team's success, clearly communicating their work to all stakeholders, and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific issues
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
- Ensure projects and tasks are prioritized, completed on time, provide status updates through metrics, risks, and mitigations to stakeholders.
- Translate strategy into structured plan. Autonomously set up project structure leveraging existing formats, and contribute to team alignment by connecting project goals to team/organization goals and communicating to the team and leadership
- Effectively use project structure to drive execution of a project’s defined scope, focusing on key objectives and managing interdependencies, managing risk, and reporting. Understand the main impacts of the changes created by the project and support the team through those as appropriate
- Efficiently analyse data and translate it into actions. Provide input and recommendations to influence decisions and implements changes within the team with minimal guidance
- Clearly communicate in a timely and collaborative way
- 2-4+ years’ experience, it’s a junior to mid-level position
- Technical Expertise (Research & LLMs): Candidates must possess a level of technical background—such as a background in research engineering, a Masters/PhD in Machine Learning, or direct experience with LLMs—to effectively support researchers. While the role does not involve direct coding, having a technical mindset is considered "beyond anything else" in importance.
- Relationship Building: The ability to form strong working relationships is the "first thing" required for success.
- The role involves navigating complex dynamics between diverse stakeholders, including senior staff who may view project management as "overhead" and junior team members who rely heavily on this operational support.
- High-Pace Adaptability: Candidates must be excited about the role and the reality of the high-velocity, fast-moving research environment. They need to be comfortable with the fast pace, where the opportunity cost of "dropping the ball" is significant, and be a strong cultural fit for the team's research-centric dynamic.
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, data mining or artificial intelligence
- Currently has or is pursuing a Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Track record of operating independently, being detail-oriented, and delivering results in a highly organized manner
- Experience building relationships with predefined stakeholders from varying cross-functional teams
- Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research
- Experience managing projects with remote or distributed teams
