Documents Management Team

As a Lead Backend Engineer , you will join the Documents team , responsible for building and evolving Personio’s document platform. This platform powers how documents are created, stored, and accessed across the entire Personio product.
The team operates across both platform infrastructure and customer-facing product features , giving you the opportunity to work on systems used internally by other engineering teams as well as features directly experienced by customers.
Over the next year, the team will focus on consolidating multiple document services into a single unified platform , enabling teams across Personio to interact with documents through a consistent set of APIs and services.
What You’ll Do
Design and build backend services that power Personio’s document platform
Contribute to the consolidation of multiple document systems into a unified architecture
Develop APIs used by teams across Personio to create, store, and retrieve documents
Improve reliability, scalability, and maintainability of complex services
Work closely with engineers across multiple teams integrating with the document platform
Contribute to technical decisions and help raise the engineering bar within the team
Support other engineers in navigating complex systems and delivering reliable solutions
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and improving existing systems.
You will likely have:
Strong experience building backend systems and APIs in production environments
Experience working with distributed systems or microservice architectures
The ability to work effectively within complex or evolving codebases
A strong focus on execution, reliability, and delivering production-quality systems
Experience collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders
Nice to have:
Experience building internal developer platforms
Experience working in SaaS environments
Experience improving or consolidating legacy systems

This role requires 2 days per week in the office . The remaining days can be worked from home, plus 20 Flex Days per year to work remotely from other locations.
