Marchant Recruitment
London

Location: Oxford, Oxfordshire

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Start Date: October 2026

About the School

Are you ready to take total ownership of a dynamic school site and keep a thriving educational environment running seamlessly? We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, and proactive Premises Manager to join our welcoming co-educational primary school in Oxford.

At our school, we believe that an exceptional physical environment is the foundation of a brilliant education. The successful candidate will play a cornerstone role in ensuring our buildings, expansive grounds, and state-of-the-art facilities are maintained to an immaculate standard, fully compliant, and completely safe for our children to learn, grow, and thrive.

The Role

As our Premises Manager, you will be the driving force behind the day-to-day management, maintenance, and security of our entire school site. Partnering closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team, you will ensure our premises are safe, functional, and deeply welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors alike.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Directing the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and future-proofing of our school buildings, grounds, and facilities.

  • Conducting rigorous site inspections to spot potential maintenance, compliance, or health and safety issues before they arise.

  • Overseeing external contractors and suppliers, guaranteeing all project work is completed safely, efficiently, and to an exceptionally high standard.

  • Championing statutory compliance, fire safety, risk assessments, and robust health and safety frameworks.

  • Managing comprehensive site security, overseeing complex access protocols, and handling school opening and closing procedures.

  • Proactively monitoring and maintaining critical heating, lighting, plumbing, and mechanical services.

  • Keeping meticulous, audit-ready records for all premises checks, statutory servicing, and reactive repairs.

  • Managing the premises budget wisely, sourcing competitive quotes, and driving cost-effective facilities improvements.

  • Keeping our outdoor spaces, play areas, and school grounds immaculate, engaging, and safe.

  • Responding with urgency and calm leadership to emergencies, unexpected faults, and critical maintenance issues.

  • Supporting vibrant school events and community activities, including flexible working arrangements when required.

  • Collaborating seamlessly with staff, school governors, contractors, and external stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Highly practical, naturally proactive, and eager to take total ownership of the school site.

  • Exceptionally organised, dependable, and gifted at multi-tasking under pressure.

  • Confident and hands-on when executing routine maintenance, diagnostic checks, and minor repairs.

  • Deeply knowledgeable about facilities compliance, health and safety, and statutory requirements within an educational setting.

  • Skilled at managing contractors, service level agreements, and external providers effectively.

  • Autonomous and self-motivated, yet a collaborative team player who loves being part of a school community.

  • Warm, approachable, and dedicated to providing a safe, positive environment for children.

  • Adaptable and eager to roll with the changing daily needs of a bustling primary school.

Whether you have years of experience managing a school site or bring a powerful background in commercial facilities and property management, we want to hear from you!

What We Offer

  • A warm, friendly, and supportive school community nestled in the heart of Oxford.

  • A high-impact, varied career where your expertise directly safeguards children's education, health, and wellbeing.

  • Fantastic opportunities for professional development and certified facilities training.

  • Secure enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme.

  • A permanent position within an ambitious, thriving educational environment.

Safeguarding

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

Take pride in your workspace and make a lasting impact—apply today to become an essential part of our Oxford school community!
