Principal Project Manager – Infrastructure
Are you an experienced project leader with a passion for delivering complex infrastructure schemes?
We are seeking a Principal Project Manager to play a key role in the successful delivery of major infrastructure programmes across the water, energy, and transportation sectors.
In this position, you will oversee projects from initial concept and strategic planning through to design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handover. Working closely with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams, you will drive project success while ensuring delivery remains aligned with programme objectives, budgets, and timescales.
This opportunity is ideal for an individual with a proven track record of managing large-scale infrastructure projects or programmes who thrives in a collaborative environment and can confidently lead teams through complex challenges. Experience supporting major planning and consent processes, including Development Consent Orders (DCOs), would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Direct the delivery of large-scale, complex, and high-profile infrastructure projects, programmes, or frameworks.
Provide leadership throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and oversee:
Cost management
Programme and scheduling
Procurement activities
Health & Safety compliance
Performance reporting
Quality assurance
Planning and project controls
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders.
Define project objectives, scope, and delivery approaches.
Contribute to business case preparation, governance processes, and approval gateways.
Manage project programmes, risks, issues, and opportunities to support successful outcomes.
Prepare and present clear, concise reports to clients, boards, and senior stakeholders.
Chair project meetings and ensure effective communication both internally and externally.
Support planning, consent, and approval processes, including DCO-related activities where required.
Mentor, develop, and inspire project teams, promoting a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
About You
You will bring excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, combined with a strong understanding of infrastructure project delivery. You are comfortable operating in complex environments, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on project management expertise, and have a track record of delivering successful outcomes for clients and project partners alike.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree qualified in a relevant discipline, such as Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Civil
Proven experience working within a consultancy environment, delivering infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients.
Demonstrated track record of managing complex infrastructure programmes across sectors such as water, energy, transport, or major capital projects.
Strong understanding of consultancy project delivery, client management, governance, and commercial principles.
