Software Engineer (Cloud) (IT)

The Space, Defence and Intelligence business unit in CGI is a true IT Systems Integrator. We work, build and operate bespoke, technically complex, mission-critical systems which help our clients keep us all safe and secure. We bring innovation to our clients using proven and emerging technologies, agile delivery processes and our deep expertise across the breadth of space, defence, intelligence, aerospace and maritime. Our roles are only available if you hold a UK Security Clearance and are a sole UK National due to the secure nature of the project. You will either hold a higher level clearance or be willing to obtain it. The position is suitable for some office or home-based work but due to the secure access of systems, this position will require onsite attendance in Gloucester. Candidate profile: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to support the transition of applications from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud. The primary focus of this role will be on ?lift and shift migrations, ensuring that legacy and current applications are moved seamlessly and effectively into a cloud-hosted environment. Responsibilities: Play a hands-on role in executing the lift and shift of applications to the cloud. Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure readiness for transition. Identify and resolve issues that could impact successful migration of applications. Provide support and guidance to other technical team members developing cloud migration capabilities. Engage in light architectural work to ensure solutions align with both cloud best practices and legacy application constraints. Document transition approaches, challenges, and resolution paths to inform future migrations. Work closely with security, operations, and development teams to ensure application functionality and compliance post-migration. Required qualifications to be successful in this role Strong software engineering background, with experience supporting enterprise applications. Proven experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (AWS preferred). Demonstrable hands-on experience with lift and shift projects, preferably in a complex, regulated environment. Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security principles in cloud and hybrid environments. Experience with containerization, virtual machines, and related deployment strategies. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to cloud migration. Familiarity with on-premises infrastructure, legacy applications, and modernization strategies. Desirable: Exposure to scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python, Terraform). Basic architectural knowledge to support high-level cloud migration planning. Experience in mentoring or supporting junior engineers through cloud transition efforts. Understanding of ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
